The project to invest in the construction of runway number 2 and related facilities at Phu Cat Airport's airfield is being implemented to ensure safe and efficient civil aviation operations.
The Class I aviation infrastructure project (airfield and facilities supporting flight operations) has a total investment of VND 3,245.089 billion (of which VND 1,500 billion comes from the central government budget, and the remainder from the local government budget), ensuring the capacity to accommodate Code C aircraft such as A320, A321 and equivalent (potentially accommodating Code E aircraft when needed); construction is expected to take 12 months.
The project scope includes: Construction of runway 2 (33L-15R) running parallel to and 215 m west of the existing runway, with dimensions of (3,048 x 45) m; construction of 4 connecting taxiways and 2 rapid exit taxiways; drainage system along both edges of the runway 2; underground culverts, seepage trenches, side trenches, and additional manholes to ensure proper drainage; flight operations support system, service roads, construction of fences and guard posts for integrated security…
In addition, the project will build a flight safety system including CAT II (33R) and CAT I (15L) approach lights, signage, beacons, lighting, automatic meteorological observation, power station and synchronized power supply equipment for operation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that Phu Cat Airport plays a crucial role in the socio-economic development and national defense and security of the South Central region, the Central Highlands, and Gia Lai province. In recent years, the province has closely coordinated with ministries, agencies, and airlines to increase flights, promote trade and tourism, and attract investment. However, the airport is currently overloaded, and the runway is deteriorating; it is predicted that by 2030, the demand for travel and transportation will increase sharply, requiring early investment in infrastructure upgrades to meet development needs.
To effectively leverage its advantageous location, importance, and existing potential, Phu Cat Airport needs to be prioritized for comprehensive, modern, and sustainable investment. The second runway, once completed, will serve both civil and military aviation operations simultaneously, contributing to increased operational capacity and meeting development needs, in line with the Phu Cat Airport Master Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Comrade Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
