Long My district takes good care of the elderly's health to contribute to improving population quality.
Provide efficient service
Giving birth during the Communication Campaign to promote having 2 children combined with providing Reproductive Health Care - Family Planning and Improving the quality of the province's population in 2023, Ms. Le Thi Thao Van, in Hamlet 5, Thuan Hoa Commune, Long My District, fully participated in prenatal screening and newborn screening for her first son. Receiving the results that the child was healthy, Ms. Van and her husband were completely assured to raise their child to be a good person.
Ms. Van realized: “Screening helps parents like us detect early abnormalities and health problems in our children. From there, we can provide timely care and treatment. Thinking about this, I do not hesitate to spend more money to fully screen my child. Up to now, I am very happy because my child is over 5 months old and developing well. In the future, if we have a second child, we will also proactively screen the baby.”
Long My district has nearly 21,900 households with a total population of over 82,300 people. The whole district currently has more than 12,800 married women aged 15 to 49 and nearly 13,900 people aged 60 and over. In response to the increasing demand for reproductive health care services - family planning and population growth, in recent times, the district has made efforts to effectively implement population and development work, providing full, timely and effective services throughout the area.
In 2023, Long My district had 554 pregnant women screened before birth, an increase of 9.23% over the same period in 2022; 854 newborns were screened, reaching 93.64% of the annual target. Thereby, 8 cases of high-risk children were detected, re-screened and treated promptly. During the year, the district had 312 male and female couples participating in pre-marital health check-ups, an increase of 22.24% over the same period in 2022; 12,337 elderly people were examined, reaching 95.51% of the annual target.
In the reproductive health care package, in 2023, Long My district had nearly 10,300 women aged 15-49 with husbands who had received gynecological examinations and more than 2,400 women who had received gynecological treatment. The whole district has nearly 8,200 couples of childbearing age currently applying modern contraceptive methods. Thereby, it can be seen that population and development work has brought many practical benefits to people in the district.
Contribute to the development of the district
Long My district is focusing on mobilizing all resources for rapid and sustainable development. In particular, human resources play a particularly important role. To have quality human resources, the district cares about and looks after people's health and improves population quality, propaganda activities go one step ahead to change people's awareness and actions.
In 2023, Long My district will promote propaganda on population and development work in many forms. The district's Health Center will coordinate with the provincial Department of Population and Family Planning to organize a workshop on propaganda solutions and mobilize young men and women to get married before the age of 30 and have 2 children before the age of 35 in the district in 2023, with about 200 participants. Implement activities to provide counseling on infertility prevention; mobilize young men and women to get married before the age of 30 and have 2 children before the age of 35 in the community.
During the year, Long My District Medical Center made efforts to implement the Program to expand screening, diagnosis, and treatment of some prenatal and neonatal diseases; Project to control gender imbalance at birth; Project to enhance counseling and provision of population - family planning services for adolescents/youth; Health care activities for the elderly, etc.
According to Mr. Huynh Dinh Cuong, Director of Long My District Health Center: “We are focusing on preparing subjects and reviewing and comparing data from the district's data warehouse management with actual people in the community. Advise the District People's Committee to issue a decision to consolidate the District Population and Development Steering Committee. Sign a joint plan with 11 sectors to coordinate more closely with the district's sectors and organizations in implementing population and development work, as well as the 2024 campaign in the area to achieve higher efficiency".
