Launching the book 'The multi-storey house back then...' on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vinh city's reconstruction

Attending the program were members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee: Nguyen Thi Thu Huong - Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee.

Also attending were leaders of friendship associations, researchers, architects, artists from home and abroad, and many people who love Vinh city.

The book launch program “The old storey house…” is a practical activity towards the 50th anniversary of the reconstruction of Vinh city (1974 - 2024). The book has more than 300 pages, including two parts: Part I is “Song of construction”, written about the historical process of signing and implementing the Agreement on the reconstruction of Vinh city between the two states of the German Democratic Republic and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.

This section includes studies on the history, historical, architectural, construction and scientific values ​​of Quang Trung area, as well as proposed opinions and ideas on preserving and promoting the values ​​of Quang Trung area as an important and unique urban heritage of Vinh city.

In addition, there are also articles by domestic and foreign researchers, some of whom were German experts who built the Quang Trung area in the past.

Part II of “The storey house back then…” is dedicated to the memories of the residents of Quang Trung area, who have lived their lives in small and loving apartments. The book is a gift of gratitude that the editorial team wants to give to those who contributed to the reconstruction of Vinh city and the construction of Quang Trung apartment complex.

Among them were leaders of the two countries, who decided on policies and created political and economic premises for Vinh's revival; and paid tribute to German and Vietnamese experts, architects, engineers and workers who worked together in the process of surveying, planning, designing and constructing dozens of works and projects in Nghe An and Vinh, including the historic Quang Trung apartment complex.

The book is a valuable source of information for generations to visualize and feel how Vinh city miraculously revived after the war and how it was able to do so. The work “The multi-storey house back then…” is truly a miniature museum of Quang Trung apartment complex.

At the program, Mr. Pham Xuan Can - founder of the Vinh Xua group; Professor Christina Schwehkel from the University of California, USA; Architect, painter Werner Georges - Former German expert in building Vinh city; Associate Professor - Doctor of History Nguyen Cong Khanh - former lecturer at Vinh University; Poet Pham Thuy Vinh - Editor-in-Chief of Song Lam Magazine shared and discussed the value of the book's content.

On this occasion, Comrade Vo Thi Minh Sinh - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee bought and donated 50 books “The old house…” to Nghe An Library to preserve and serve readers for a long time.

Also at the program, Architect and artist Werner Georges - Former German expert in Vinh city construction, displayed a collection of photos and sketches during his years working in Vinh.
