Putting itself in the flow of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25), the film comes out as a light but profound slice, a smile opening up for the audience to touch the silent feelings of the lives of Vietnamese women.

Contrary to the image of heavy works, the film by director and actor Quoc Toan chose to tell the story through witty laughter, as close as the "alley" that the film's title suggests. Not tragic, not forced with slogans, this work uses a daily tone to talk about not small issues: gender prejudice, mental violence, silent suffering and the desire to be free, to live as oneself.

The three main characters of the film are like three separate personalities of a Vietnamese woman: strong but vulnerable, liberal but often judged, gentle but with scars that are not easy to name. The contrast between them creates a layer of comedy that is both subtle and profound, making the audience "laugh first, think later" - the kind of comedy that makes us laugh but immediately see a part of ourselves in it.

Writer Tina Yuan shares about the role.

The intriguing highlight of the project lies in the character of teacher Yen, played by writer Tina Yuan. Known as an author of essays and travelogues, she now takes on the role of a strict, dedicated woman who loves her students to the point of being misunderstood and bullied by the very environment she wants to contribute to. This is not just an image in the film; it is also the story of many teachers, women in the care and education profession, who are often treated unfairly by unreasonable expectations of society.

It can be felt that “Ngo Nu Quyen” is not only about feminism, in the true sense of the term. It is about women’s right to be happy, to be wrong, to be tired, to be happy. What is interesting is that the film does not try to tell them to be strong, but makes it clear: women have always been strong, it’s just that sometimes they forget it because they are too busy with others.

The appearance of artists such as Meritorious Artist Cao Nguyet Hang, Meritorious Artist Hoa Thuy, painter - actress Que Chi, influencer Hoa July, dancer Huyen Anh, actress Thien Ngan, Bao Chau, Nhat Minh and Director of the Institute of Educational Sciences and Environment Nguyen Van Khuong... created a multi-colored picture, where each person has a different color but all aim for a common message: honoring the beauty and endurance of Vietnamese women.

Sharing about the film, director Quoc Toan said he wanted to create a work that “can be watched with family”, because according to him, feminism is not just a matter of women, but an issue of anyone living in a community. “We chose comedy because comedy is the lightest way to touch on heavy things” - he said.

Screenwriter Emi Phuong said she wants every audience, especially women, to “see a part of themselves in each small piece.” She shared that during the writing process, there were nights when she sat down with the question: “What hurts women the most?” And her answer was: “Not the big things, but the small hurts that repeat themselves every day.”

That is also the spirit throughout the film: Big events are sometimes not as dangerous as small scratches that repeat in family life, work, or educational environment. This message is shown through many scenes in the trailer, from the conflicts between characters to the story of teacher Yen, a woman who is misunderstood despite doing everything for her students.

One notable thing is that the crew decided to release the film for free on YouTube, opening the door to wide access for all audiences. The crew's wish is to bring positive messages to as many people as possible.
