
The meeting took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-UNICEF cooperation and the 35th anniversary of Vietnam's ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Also attending the reception were Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang and representatives of the National Assembly Committees.
At the reception, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh congratulated and thanked UNICEF and the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child for their support and close cooperation with Vietnam over the past 50 years.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly affirmed that UNICEF is an important development partner, a long-term companion of Vietnam in caring for, educating and protecting children, especially in the period of responding to the Covid-19 pandemic, implementing the expanded immunization program and supporting localities affected by natural disasters and floods.
The Vietnamese National Assembly always considers child care, protection and education as a top priority and highly appreciates effective cooperation with UNICEF through specialized committees, contributing to improving the law and improving the effectiveness of child policy monitoring.

During 50 years of cooperation, UNICEF has supported Vietnam in addressing nutrition, health, education and clean water issues for children; participated in the development and completion of the 2016 Law on Children, policies on school nutrition, child protection in the online environment, prevention of violence and abuse; promoted innovation in health care service models, inclusive education and support for children with disabilities.
The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that Vietnam is the first country in Asia and the second in the world to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The National Assembly and the State of Vietnam always pay special attention to ensuring the rights of the young generation, adolescents and children.
In the recent term, the National Assembly has integrated child protection and care into many important law projects such as: Law on Teachers (amended), Road Law, Law on Road Traffic Safety, Law on Juvenile Justice, Law on Personal Data Protection, etc.
Along with that, many major programs and policies have been implemented to ensure children's rights: universalizing preschool education for children aged 3-5; exempting and supporting tuition fees for students at all levels of general education; preventing accidents, protecting children in the online environment; and supporting children in special circumstances.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly requested UNICEF to continue: Providing professional, financial and technical support to the National Assembly Committees; Consulting and sharing international experience in building legal policies on children; Supporting the analysis of children's budgets and mobilizing resources for child care and protection; Increasing support for new issues: cyber safety, mental health, climate change, science and technology education.
The UNICEF East Asia-Pacific Regional Director expressed his deep sympathy for the loss of human lives and property caused by natural disasters and floods in Vietnam, and affirmed that UNICEF is ready to support Vietnam in overcoming consequences and post-disaster reconstruction.

UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Director congratulated Vietnam on passing the 2024 Law on Juvenile Justice, strengthening protection for children under 18 years of age, and highly appreciated the Government's action plan in implementing the recommendations of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

These results affirm that the Vietnam-UNICEF cooperation relationship over the past 50 years has been an effective development partnership model, contributing to improving the quality of child care, education and protection, while demonstrating Vietnam's commitment to implementing the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals.
