Launching the first bilingual photo book about 100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism

On the morning of June 10 in Hanoi, the photo book “100 Years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism (1925-2025)” was officially launched to the public. The book is a valuable document, recording the 100-year development journey of Vietnamese revolutionary journalism, compiled in Vietnamese and English to serve both domestic and international readers.

According to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), the book was directed by the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, VNA; compiled and published by the News Agency Publishing House. This is the first time a large-scale, systematic photo book on the history of revolutionary journalism has been published in Vietnam.

More than 1,000 rare photos and documents have been carefully selected from many domestic and foreign sources such as: Photo Editorial Board and Center for Documentary Information - Graphics (VNA), Vietnam Press Museum, Center for Journalism Training (Vietnam Journalists Association), Hanoi History Museum, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine, Voice of Vietnam Radio , along with many veteran journalists and individuals collecting documents.

The book is divided into 6 parts corresponding to the stages of development of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. Period 1925 - 1945: Propaganda, enlightenment, agitation, gathering, organizing forces to fight for independence and freedom; Period 1945 - 1954: Serving the task of resistance and nation building; Period 1954 - 1975: Serving the cause of building and defending the socialist North, supporting the South, and unifying the country; Period 1975 - 1986: With the task of building and defending the country; Period 1986 - 2000: Serving the cause of comprehensive national renewal; Period 2001 - 2025: Serving the cause of industrialization and modernization, creating the premise to bring the country into a new era, the era of national growth.

Journalist Phung Thi My, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the News Publishing House, said that the preparation of the book took more than a year. The book is a deep tribute to President Ho Chi Minh - the founder of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism and generations of revolutionary journalists. At the same time, this is also a great source of encouragement for journalists today and tomorrow.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, journalist Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association highly appreciated the documentary value and special significance of the book on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Revolutionary Journalism. The book not only helps Vietnamese people better understand the history of the nation through the lens of journalism, but is also an effective tool to promote the country's image through journalism. He proposed using the book as a typical product at the upcoming National Press Festival and National Press Awards Ceremony.

At the event, collectors, experts and journalists who contributed to the compilation process were also present. Among them, collector Nguyen Phi Dung, who owns about 23 tons of press documents, provided many valuable artifacts, typically the first issue of "Liberation Flag" published on October 10, 1942 - the Central propaganda agency of the Indochinese Communist Party. The newspaper was bought by him for 48 million VND from an individual in Bac Ninh due to its rarity, lithographed and handwritten in difficult resistance conditions.

“I want these newspapers to be preserved for future generations. They will read the newspapers and know how our ancestors lived, fought and protected the country and now are building the country,” he shared.
