Reviewing preparations for the 47th ASEAN Summit

On October 24, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, within the framework of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM), Deputy Foreign Minister, Head of ASEAN SOM Vietnam Dang Hoang Giang, together with Deputy Foreign Ministers and Senior Officials of ASEAN countries, reviewed all preparations for the 47th ASEAN Summit and ASEAN Summits with partners.

Taking place from October 26-28, 2025, these are the highlight activities of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, with the participation of leaders of ASEAN countries, Timor-Leste, leaders of partner countries, guests of the ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 and the United Nations Secretary-General.

With over 15 high-level meetings and activities, leaders are expected to discuss and agree on important directions and measures to strengthen cooperation, expand linkages, effectively exploit new growth drivers and effectively respond to emerging challenges, thereby contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world . In particular, it is expected that at the 47th ASEAN Summit, ASEAN will officially admit Timor-Leste as the 11th member, opening a new chapter in ASEAN's development history.

Regarding documents, the leaders are expected to sign, approve and acknowledge nearly 80 documents to promote cooperation between ASEAN and its partners in many priority areas, especially economics , trade, etc.

Appreciating the preparations of the host country, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that he will continue to closely coordinate with ASEAN countries to ensure the conferences are successfully organized and achieve many practical results.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Dang Hoang Giang and other countries discussed many important issues related to the process of building the ASEAN Community, supporting Timor-Leste after its accession, expanding the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), reviewing the cooperation situation between ASEAN and its partners and improving the effectiveness of ASEAN-led mechanisms.

The ASEAN Senior Officials Meetings have opened a series of activities within the framework of the 47th ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN-Party Summit. According to the program, on October 25, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meetings and the ASEAN Foreign and Economic Ministers' Meeting will continue./.
