Real Madrid spends 50 million euros to buy former MU defender

Carreras' current release clause at Benfica is €50 million. However, Real Madrid hope to convince Benfica to reduce the asking price for the 22-year-old defender.

Real Madrid's obstacle comes from the fact that Manchester United (Carreras's former team) has a buy-back clause for this defender for 18 million euros. This privilege expires on December 31. Coach Ruben Amorim's team is also considering buying Carreras after witnessing the player's good performance at Benfica.

Carreras is a versatile left-back who has made 47 appearances for Benfica this season, scoring four goals. These qualities would fit perfectly into the full-back-focused system that Xabi Alonso plans to use next season.

Carreras' ability to contribute to the game, his finishing skills and his speed are highly appreciated by experts, helping him become one of the phenomena of this year's Portuguese league.

Carreras played for Real Madrid's youth team for three years before joining Manchester United in 2020. However, the defender has yet to make an official appearance for the Red Devils' first team. Last summer, Carreras joined Benfica for a fee of €5 million.
