A new humanoid robot has caught the public's attention with its price tag that is only equal to an iPhone 17. A product of Chinese startup Noetix Robotics, the Bumi robot is 94 cm tall, weighs 12 kg, and costs only 10,000 yuan (about 1,370 USD ).

This humanoid robot is designed for educational purposes and home use, according to TechNode . Bumi can help beginners learn programming and robotics through an intuitive drag-and-drop interface, and create sequences of actions or reactions on command.

In the introductory video , besides its educational uses, Bumi can perform some jumping and backward movements skillfully. Although not the most advanced model ever introduced, Bumi's price is only slightly higher than some flagship smartphones. Meanwhile, some low-cost models but still specialized for research/education start at least $6,000 like the Unitree R1.

This price point makes the robot much more accessible to tech enthusiasts, and many hope it is also a sign that more advanced versions will become increasingly affordable in the future.

The humanoid robot market is growing at a rapid pace and is expected to grow significantly over the next decade. Startups and large companies are investing heavily in a race to be the first to mass produce advanced models.

Potential areas for robots to work alongside humans include industrial environments, or performing tasks in nursing homes and health care facilities. The hospitality industry is also an area where robots can be effective.

Some companies are also experimenting with the idea of bringing humanoid robots into the home. Recently, the US company Figure launched a robot design that can perform many tasks such as folding clothes, cleaning and even serving drinks.

However, before they can be widely used, engineers need to continue to improve the performance of robots, especially the ability to handle and manipulate objects. An American company called Boston Dynamics is focusing on this field of research.

Breakthroughs are expected in the coming year, driven by rapidly evolving technologies like artificial intelligence, which help robots process information and learn new skills more efficiently.

Noetix plans to launch its product later this year. But it's unclear whether Bumi will be available globally or just in China.
