- In the early morning of August 10, hundreds of athletes will officially compete in the Van Quan Anise Forest Run 2025 - one of the most anticipated mass sports events. Taking place on the occasion of the 115th anniversary of the birth of comrade Luong Van Tri, the race is not only an opportunity to practice health and exchange sports but also carries the expectation of promoting the natural beauty, typical products and awakening the development potential of the place considered the "capital" of anise forests of Lang Son.
According to the plan to organize a series of activities associated with the celebration of the 115th anniversary of Comrade Luong Van Tri's birthday (August 17, 1910 - August 17, 2025), the Van Quan Forest Run is one of the sports activities within the framework of the activities. As the first relatively large-scale race organized by the People's Committee of Van Quan commune right after completing the operation of the two-level local government, the race was organized professionally and methodically, clearly demonstrating the vision of making sports a "tool" to connect and promote the image of the people and land of Van Quan to friends from all over the world.
Prepare carefully, spread widely
Immediately after having a general plan, at the end of July 2025, the Commune People's Committee quickly issued a plan to organize the race, established the Organizing Committee and 5 sub-committees: content - propaganda, reception - logistics, referee, health care, protection - security.
Mr. Nguyen Van Sang, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the race, said: Learning from the experience of large-scale grassroots races organized by the province and the (old) districts in the past, as well as absorbing new technologies in the process of organizing the race, we have built a detailed plan, assigned specific tasks to each member in charge and grasped the work progress on a daily basis.
To prepare carefully for the race, the Organizing Committee has carefully surveyed each running route to ensure safety and suitability for the terrain; mobilized over 50 commune officials, civil servants and socio-political organizations, police, military and medical forces to coordinate environmental sanitation, ensure security and order, medical care and divided into groups to support athletes at the relay points.
In particular, instead of the usual registration method, the Organizing Committee has organized an online registration system with distances including 5km, 10km, 21km. After registering, athletes are given a BIB code (the athlete's registration number in the tournament) integrated with an electronic scoring system chip according to professional running standards. The registration portal is open from July 13 to August 1, 2025, recording over 700 athletes inside and outside the province (Thai Nguyen, Hanoi , Hung Yen...) registering to participate in the tournament.
In addition, on the competition day, the Organizing Committee also mobilized about 500 amateur athletes, volunteers, students, and union members to run and cheer along the race track, making the race truly a highly anticipated sports festival.
Tang Viet Cuong, Ban Coong village, Van Quan commune said: Although I am a citizen of the commune, I have not had the opportunity to explore the whole area of the commune. In the past years of high school, I have participated in short-distance races, but this is the first time I have registered to run a 21km race. I am very excited and hope that this race will help me gain more experience, so that when I enter university, I will tell my friends about the beauty of my hometown.
The roads are fragrant with star anise.
Unique compared to many other races, the Van Quan Anise Forest Race attracts athletes with its routes through ancient anise forests, along peaceful villages, winding roads typical of Lang Son mountains, where the smell of tree resin and the fragrance of anise flowers always lingers, where the sound of forest birds blends with the footsteps of athletes.
Accordingly, the 3 distances: 5km, 10km and 21km have created opportunities to expand the range of athletes to experience according to their abilities. The 5km distance is for beginners or amateur athletes, running from Van Quan Stadium --> Phung Tri Kien Street --> Duc Tam Street --> Le Quy Don Street --> Lung Ca Street, looping back to the finish line (at the starting point).
The 10km route is wider when starting from Van Quan Stadium --> Phung Tri Kien Street --> Duc Tam Street --> Le Quy Don Street --> turn left in the alley near Van Minh Stationery Supermarket --> through the ancient anise forest --> down to Khon Don --> Lung Ca Street and finishing (at the starting point).
Meanwhile, the 21km distance challenges runners with a route through villages, from Lung Hang --> Yen Phuc --> Ban Cuom --> Khon Don and to the finish line (at the starting point).
Ms. Phung Thi Trang, Hoang Liet Ward, Hanoi City said: I have participated in Mau Son Mount Paths Race for 2 consecutive years and was convinced by the beautiful scenery of Lang Son. When I learned that Van Quan Commune in Lang Son organized the race, and saw the image of the running route through the anise trees, I was extremely excited and immediately registered to participate in the 21km distance to have new experiences and continue to explore more about the nature and people here.
The special thing about this race is the connection between sports, tourism and promoting local agricultural products. This is also a highlight towards the upcoming Hoi festival - a typical agricultural specialty of Van Quan commune.
Mr. Luong Trong Hao, Deputy Head of the Department of Tourism and Sports Management, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the province, said: With professional and methodical preparation, good propaganda and promotion, the 2025 Van Quan Forest Run attracted a large number of athletes to participate. What is more valuable is that the race does not stop at grassroots sports, but also opens up a direction to connect sports with tourism and promote local products. In my opinion, this is a good model that needs to be replicated.
At this point, preparations for the tournament are basically ready. When the starting whistle sounds on the morning of August 10, each step of the athletes will open up new experiences about the pristine beauty of the mountains and forests, the scent of star anise from Lang Son. Thereby, contributing to awakening tourism potential, promoting typical products and fostering pride in the homeland that is changing every day in the era of national development.
According to the organization plan, the starting times of the races on the morning of August 10 are as follows: - 21km and 10km distances gather at 4:30, depart at 5:00. - 5km distance gather and attend the opening ceremony at 5:00, depart at 5:30. |
