MG4 EV priced from 230 million "sold out", 11,000 cars sold in just 24 hours

Within just 24 hours of opening deposits, SAIC Motor's low-cost MG4 electric car attracted 11,067 orders – a promising start for the small electric hatchback.

The MG4 EV is developed on the E3 pure electric platform designed by SAIC and is expected to be officially launched in September this year. The MG4 is introduced in four versions, with pre-order prices ranging from 73,800 to 105,800 yuan (about 10,100–14,400 USD). However, the version using solid-state batteries will have to wait until later.

In terms of design, the new MG4 still retains the compact hatchback style, the front of the car is inspired by the Cyberster convertible model with a glowing MG logo.

The new MG4 EV 2025 electric hatchback has overall dimensions of 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, 1,551 mm high and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

At the rear, the arrow-shaped taillights continue to be reminiscent of the Cyberster and are designed with inspiration from the British flag. The car has six exterior paint options.

From the side, the car impresses with sharp embossed lines, black glass borders and unique petal-shaped rims, creating a sporty and youthful appearance.

Inside the cockpit, the central entertainment system was developed with Oppo, allowing users to control phone content directly on the car screen.

The MG4 EV also applies cell-to-body (CTB) technology, which helps lower the car floor and optimize interior space.

The car uses front-wheel drive, equipped with an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 120 kW. Under ideal conditions, the battery can be quickly charged from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes.

The front suspension of the electric MG4 EV 2025 in the Chinese market is designed as an independent MacPherson strut, while the rear suspension is a non-independent torsion beam.

SAIC raised expectations when it launched the IM L6 model last year, announcing that it would be equipped with an "all-solid-state battery." This information appeared on the Shanghai government portal and attracted a lot of attention, especially with its operating range of up to 1,000 km.

However, more than a year later, none of IM Motors' electric cars actually use solid-state batteries – not even semi-solid-state batteries have appeared.
