For more than ten years now, the lantern making and lantern procession movement has been maintained annually. Since summer, students and young people have formed groups, assigned people to set up frames, buy accessories, sew fabric, attach flowers... to complete giant lanterns for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Nguyen Thanh Y Nhi, a student at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted ( Kon Tum Ward, Quang Ngai Province), said that in the past, there were not many activities during the Mid-Autumn Festival due to the lack of conditions. At that time, students only invited each other to make a big lantern to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, but gradually this tradition was preserved and spread to many other schools.
On the night of the full moon festival, the lantern procession marched through the central streets of Kon Tum ward and gathered at the Dak Bla bridge area. The multi-colored lanterns with many unique shapes made the space brilliant and the atmosphere was lively with the participants of this activity.
Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Hanh, in Kon Tum ward (Quang Ngai province), said that this year the lantern models were more elaborate, creative and cuter than in previous years. Because the Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the weekend, she took her child out to experience the bustling atmosphere, considering it a “specialty” of Kon Tum.
From the creative hands of youth, giant lanterns become a symbol of solidarity, bringing joy and beautiful memories. The Mid-Autumn Festival lantern procession in the Western Quang Ngai has become a new cultural feature, sowing unforgettable emotions in the hearts of locals and tourists.
