From plays about major corruption cases and high-tech crimes to touching stories about firefighters and border police, the stage has been portraying the image of police officers who are both brave, intelligent and very ordinary. Rich reality is the fertile "land" for the stage to touch the hearts of today's audiences.

Multi-colored themes, multi-tone art
The 5th National Professional Stage Arts Festival on “The Image of the People’s Public Security Soldier” in 2025, which took place from June 24 to July 7, was a large-scale gathering of stage compositions on this topic. 25 plays from 21 art units inside and outside the industry, spanning across various types of theater such as drama, cheo, cai luong, folk songs, Hue opera, bai choi opera, etc., showed that the image of the police soldier is of interest, expressed in a variety of colors and artistic tones.
Although it is a widely exploited topic, the People's Police Drama Theater still finds a new direction through two plays "The Third Person" and "Fire Flower". "The Third Person" is inspired by intelligence soldiers who were students and artists working behind enemy lines. "Fire Flower" exploits the image of police soldiers in the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Department with a sense of responsibility, courage and sacrifice.
Although not their forte, but with the characteristics of both being in the armed forces, the Army Drama Theater has two works that have left their mark. While the play “Not Falling Down” recreates the fierce fight against drug crimes, emphasizing the steely spirit and silent sacrifice of the criminal police force, the play “Love” depicts the image of a female police officer who is intelligent, resilient, and compassionate. Both plays spread a humane message, highlighting the beauty of the People's Police officer in peacetime.
Other art units all have works with their own unique colors. Vietnam Drama Theater with “Peaceful Against the Current”; Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema has “Blue Sky at the Bottom of the Abyss”; Truong Hung Minh Theater Company Ltd. impressed with “Reunion of Emotions”; Lam Son Art Theater has “Thunder at Lach Hoi Gate”… Each work vividly depicts the image of the People’s Public Security soldier on many fronts, such as fighting against drug crimes, corruption crimes, high-tech crimes; fire prevention and fighting…
Inspiring Service
It must be affirmed that the theme of the image of the People's Public Security soldier is always attractive to theater people. The challenging and vivid reality of life in ensuring security, order and peace for society is a fertile "land" for artists to cultivate creative inspiration. However, to have a realistic, moving and attractive theater work for today's audience is not easy.
Playwright Chu Thom, author of the play “Nhan Tinh”, shared that the play is aimed at young audiences, those who are used to receiving information through technology, so to be convincing, it must have real life, depth and closeness. The image of the police officer recreated must not only be good at his job but also sympathetic, reasonable, living among the people and for the people.
Sharing the same view, Colonel, Meritorious Artist Le Thi Mai Phuong, Director of the Army Drama Theater, commented that today's theater is changing its approach to this topic. It is not stereotypical, not one-sided idealization, but touching life, depicting a police officer with inner thoughts, concerns, choices and sacrifices. That creates closeness and emotion for the audience.
Many stage plays are inspired by real life stories, such as “Against the Peaceful Current,” which tells the story of the heroic sacrifice of three police officers while on firefighting duty.
Director Kieu Minh Hieu shared that the production team wanted to honor and show gratitude to the brave firefighters, and also contribute to raising awareness of fire prevention and fighting in the community. To do that, the play must first be attractive, from realistic, everyday situations to the use of modern stage technology, creating eye-catching scenes for the audience.
Another aspect is that the activities of the People's Public Security force are highly specific. Therefore, most art units, especially those outside the industry, must invest seriously, consult and have professional and technical support from forces within the industry to ensure authenticity.
Artist The Nguyen, who participated in the play “Against the Peaceful Current”, said that to play the role of a police officer in the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Department, he had to research, study, observe and practice at a professional unit.
Dr. and playwright Nguyen Dang Chuong, Chairman of the Jury of the 5th National Professional Stage Arts Festival on “The Image of the People's Public Security Soldier”, commented that each play has different artistic techniques and styles, but they all have one thing in common: praising the noble qualities of the People's Public Security soldier who is intelligent, brave, compassionate and always takes the peace of the people as the reason for living.
Fortunately, many works are not only staged to participate in festivals but have also entered real life, often "lit up" and sold well, contributing to spreading humanitarian values, inspiring service, and fostering beautiful living ideals in the community.
