Phan Thiet fish sauce is renowned for its delicious flavor, with a straw-yellow or golden-brown color and a rich aroma. Since 2007, the Intellectual Property Office – Ministry of Science and Technology has officially registered the name "Phan Thiet" as a national trademark in the National Register of Goods of Origin, a national asset protected by the State throughout Vietnam for fish sauce produced in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province.
The traditional fish sauce production in the coastal city of Phan Thiet has a history spanning hundreds of years. The fish sauce here is refined from pure ingredients, using coarse salt and anchovies caught in the local waters. Many Phan Thiet fish sauce products have received OCOP certification, boasting a very natural, rich aroma and flavor, making them an indispensable part of Vietnamese family meals.
Phan Thiet fish sauce is primarily produced from anchovies caught in the waters of Binh Thuan province. The Phan Thiet sea has many types of anchovies, such as striped anchovies, black anchovies, red anchovies, chalk-striped anchovies, lead-striped anchovies, and small anchovies… but the best types for making fish sauce are black anchovies and striped anchovies. To obtain delicious Phan Thiet fish sauce, in the early days, the fish sauce was salted in earthenware jars and pots. It is renowned for its delicious aroma, straw-yellow or yellowish-brown color, rich sweetness from the protein, a lingering aftertaste, a clear consistency, and a protein content of no less than 15 g/liter. This unique characteristic is formed by the fermentation process under the sun and wind – high average temperatures and low humidity positively impacting the fermentation mechanism – a feature unique to the sunny and windy Phan Thiet region.
Currently, in Phan Thiet city, there are many fish sauce brands that have achieved OCOP 4-star certification, such as: Tin fish sauce (Seagull Co., Ltd.); traditional fish sauce (Black Fish Co., Ltd.); Phan Thiet Mui Ne fish sauce and Suchi pure anchovy fish sauce (Phan Thiet - Mui Ne Fish Sauce Processing and Export Joint Stock Company); long-standing fermented fish paste (Quang Long Fish Sauce Business); Ba Hai fish sauce (Ba Hai Fish Sauce Co., Ltd.); Toan Huong fish sauce (Toan Huong Phan Thiet Co., Ltd.)...
Over the past period, the authorities and departments of Binh Thuan province have provided strong support to OCOP (One Commune One Product) entities, especially OCOP-certified fish sauce products, in promoting brands, finding customers, and expanding distribution channels. As a result, Phan Thiet fish sauce has connected with many businesses that need to purchase the product for resale through supply chains or for trading in Co.opmart and Big C supermarkets and distribution networks from North to South. Consumers appreciate Phan Thiet fish sauce for its rich, distinctive, and delicious flavor. This is because the fish sauce production process here is completely natural, without the use of preservatives or compromising product quality. With its excellent quality and flavor, Phan Thiet fish sauce has become a popular brand trusted by consumers both domestically and internationally.
