A very rare, highly malignant form of breast cancer.
The pregnant woman is Ms. TTTV (30 years old, Da Nang ), 3 years ago her first pregnancy was incomplete. Less than 1 month after the miscarriage, she discovered a large tumor of about 4-5 cm in her left breast. When she went to Gia Dinh Hospital for examination and necessary paraclinical tests, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Ms. V and her child took a souvenir photo with Dr. Tran Duc Thinh before being discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Bui Thi Nhu Quynh - Breast Unit, Family Hospital, commented that Ms. V's case could be a type of pregnancy-related breast cancer, very rare, highly malignant, progressing very quickly and most cases are detected at a late stage with symptoms of a clearly palpable tumor of large size. Ms. V was lucky to detect it early, if she is confident and actively treated, the opportunity to fulfill her role as a mother is still hopeful.
Bursting with happiness of motherhood
During the next 2 years, Ms. V was treated for breast cancer at the B specialist with a regimen of mastectomy, chemotherapy, etc. When her health was stable and with the desire to continue her role as a mother, Ms. V successfully became pregnant for the second time, to the surprise, worry and joy of her family and doctors.
“During her pregnancy, Ms. V was closely monitored by doctors for her obstetric, fetal and breast health. Thanks to that, she hardly encountered any serious problems, only a little pain in the surgical area in the last months of pregnancy," said Dr. Tran Duc Thinh, Head of the Family Hospital Obstetrics Clinic, who is also the doctor directly monitoring Ms. V's pregnancy.
At 38 weeks, Ms. V had a safe cesarean section. A baby boy weighing 2.6 kg was born safely, bringing great joy to the family and the entire medical team. The baby was immediately given to a pediatrician for examination and skin-to-skin contact on the mother's chest. Currently, the health of both mother and child is stable.
Ms. V's story is a testament to the fact that early detection and timely treatment of breast cancer will bring good results. In many cases, breast cancer is discovered during pregnancy and is very difficult to treat and handle. Because if the fetus is removed early, it will affect the newborn, but if the fetus is allowed to reach full term, breast cancer will develop rapidly, with the risk of metastasis or late stage cancer.
Sometimes, it is even necessary to make a difficult choice between saving the mother or saving the child. Therefore, Family Doctors recommend that women should have regular breast cancer screening every 6 months to 1 year.
Spreading positivity from “Pink Bow”
To accompany women in the fight against breast cancer, Gia Dinh General Hospital has implemented the "Pink Bow" program. Accordingly, with a breast ultrasound result that does not detect any abnormalities at Gia Dinh Hospital, the hospital will automatically contribute 10,000 VND to the "Pink Bow" fund.
The fund is used to support 100% of the screening costs for patients with confirmed breast cancer results at Gia Dinh Hospital. Implemented since October 2024, up to now, thousands of "Pink Ribbons" have been given away, helping the fund grow stronger, accompanying and sharing with many women who are unfortunate to have the disease.
