After 70 years of construction and development since Liberation Day (May 13, 1955), from a traditional industrial and seaport city, Hai Phong city has risen to become one of the major economic centers of Vietnam, a key growth pole in the Northern region.

With an effective planning strategy, strong investment attraction and sustainable financial management, Hai Phong is currently among the top 5 localities with leading economic scale in the country, along with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , Binh Duong and Dong Nai.

The only locality with double-digit growth for 10 consecutive years

Hai Phong is the only locality to maintain double-digit growth for 10 consecutive years, with a growth rate of 11.01% in 2024, about 1.55 times higher than the national average.

Hai Phong city's economy has always maintained a high growth rate, the economic scale ranks second in the Red River Delta, after Hanoi. The city's GRDP scale in 2024 is 6.32 times that of 2010, 3.4 times that of 2015 and 1.62 times that of 2020.

Industry is developing strongly, shifting towards modernization. Industry - construction and services continue to be the industry groups that account for a large proportion in the city's economic structure. The proportion of processing and manufacturing industry in GRDP will reach 43.86% in 2024. The economic structure by sector has shifted positively, reducing the proportion of the state economy, increasing the private economy and the foreign-invested sector in GRDP. The investment capital of the non-state sector and foreign investment in the period of 2021 - 2025 is estimated at 845.54 trillion VND, accounting for 86.3% of the total investment capital implemented in the area, truly an important driving force of the city's economy.

Per capita income in 2024 will reach 9,486 USD/person, more than 20 times higher than in 2003 - the year the Politburo issued Resolution No. 32-NQ/TW on building and developing Hai Phong city in the period of industrialization and modernization of the country.

The above results clearly demonstrate the potential, role and special geopolitical position of Hai Phong in the Northern region, and at the same time affirm the city's strong determination in creating a modern, dynamic urban area, playing the role of an important trade gateway between Vietnam and the world.

Budget revenue of hundreds of thousands of billions each year

Hai Phong's total state budget revenue has continuously increased over the years, exceeding the central government's estimate for many years. In 2022, the city's state budget revenue exceeded the 100,000 billion VND mark and has continued to maintain that result to date.

The average state budget revenue in the area in the 2021-2025 period is estimated to increase by 7.06% per year, of which domestic revenue will increase by 9.27% ​​per year. The proportion of investment expenditure to total investment and regular expenditure is expected to increase to 56.66% by 2025.

Key infrastructure projects have been continuously started, promoting socio-economic development. Many projects have greatly contributed to the connection and socio-economic development of the locality such as: Tan Vu - Lach Huyen Bridge, ports of Lach Huyen international gateway port, Cat Bi international airport, etc.
