Determined to push back counterfeit goods
From June 6-8, the Market Management Department (QLTT) coordinated with the Police Department for Investigation of Crimes of Corruption, Economy and Smuggling (PC03) to organize a peak period of inspection and handling of violations in the province. Initial results show that the situation of smuggling and counterfeiting is still complicated with many sophisticated tricks.
According to a report from the provincial Market Management Department, in the 3 days of operation, the authorities discovered 8 violations related to goods of unknown origin and counterfeiting international brands. Notably, one violation was transferred to the investigation agency due to its serious nature.
Specifically, in Vung Tau City, authorities discovered 6 violations involving a variety of products from cosmetics, shoes, handbags to fashion clothes. The total value of the violated goods is estimated at about 440 million VND.
In Long Dat district, authorities seized 335kg of rice of unknown origin with an estimated value of over 9 million VND. Although the value was not large, this incident shows that violations have spread to essential goods, directly affecting people's food safety.
In Phu My City alone, a major violation was discovered with the seizure of 600 suitcases worth about 116 million VND. This could be one of the relatively large-scale violations of counterfeit goods during this peak period.
Synchronized coordination, root cause treatment
The peak period of fighting against smuggling and trade fraud was implemented in the spirit of Official Dispatch No. 65/CD-TTg signed by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 15. This is a document demonstrating the Government's high political determination in "declaring war" on smuggling, trade fraud, counterfeit goods and infringement of intellectual property rights.
The dispatch stated that, in the context of the complicated developments of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, seriously affecting the socio-economic life, public health and people's trust, the Government has decided to launch a nationwide campaign. The goal is not only to prevent and repel but also to completely end this situation.
One of the highlights of this peak period is the close coordination between functional forces. Telegram 65 clearly affirms that the work of preventing smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods cannot be the sole responsibility of any ministry or agency, but requires the synchronous coordination of the entire political system and the entire population.
The coordination between the Market Management Department and PC03 Department has created positive results right from the first days of implementation. The combination of market management expertise with experience in investigating economic crimes has helped improve the quality of inspection work and detection of violations.
Mr. Le Quang Hai, Head of the Market Management Department of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, said that the unit is focusing all resources to effectively implement the Prime Minister's direction. "We not only focus on detecting and handling violations but also pay attention to propaganda work, raising awareness of people and businesses," Mr. Hai emphasized.
