This place is famous for many legends of curing the king's illness with rare herbs available in the area... To preserve the ancient traditional values of this special land, in April 2022, the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province issued a decision, granting a certificate of recognition of the title of Craft Village of Ninh Binh province in 2022 to Sinh Duoc village.
With that foundation, many household economic and cooperative economic models have researched and developed traditional medicinal products into popular items to supply to markets inside and outside the province, contributing significantly to socio-economic development as well as preserving and maintaining local cultural and historical values.
"Nudge" from herbs
Currently, Sinh Duoc craft village has a total estimated medicinal plant growing area of over seven hectares; the factory is over 3,000 square meters wide. From traditional medicine, Sinh Duoc craft village has researched and applied over 30 types of herbs such as: Saigon, honeysuckle, chrysanthemum, cyperus, lemongrass, basil, moringa, ... to bring to the market products such as: foot bath salt, essential oils, bath soap, herbal extracts ...
Mr. Vu Trung Duc, Director of Sinh Duoc Cooperative said: From the plants of this land, we have combined traditional and modern methods to create quality products, eye-catching packaging, full QR Code stamps, with a total consumption capacity of up to thousands of tons of raw materials per year. In addition to health support features, Sinh Duoc products also incorporate cultural values in each product.
Sinh Duoc craft village also organizes production and provides many services for members of the craft village and associated members; focusing mainly on the following areas: Planting and preserving indigenous medicinal herbs in Ninh Binh; extracting essential oils; processing herbal products into goods; scientific research and transfer of medicinal processing technology; tourism service activities, and production of handicrafts.
Ms. Trinh Thi Ly, a member of Sinh Duoc Cooperative, said: "Sinh Duoc's foot bath salt, An Thai tea, and Bodhi leaf paintings have received the province's 4-star OCOP certification. These are products representing the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, and handicraft group. Recently, the craft village has officially received organic certification for the central medicinal herb field, after the meticulous process of soil care and plant cultivation by the members. I, as well as the people here, have built and contributed a lot of enthusiasm here. We hope to preserve the tradition of the craft village."
With dynamism and creativity in developing diverse products, retail sales of Sinh Duoc products are growing strongly and have a wide market in many provinces and cities across the country. In 2023, revenue from the production and cultivation of medicinal herbs of Sinh Duoc craft village will reach 20 billion VND, creating jobs for 70 workers, with an average income of 54.5 million VND/person/year, contributing to social security and sustainable poverty reduction in the locality.
Combining herbs with travel
Along with production activities, Sinh Duoc craft village is combining the development of experiential tourism and eco-tourism with more than 2,000m2 including: Bodhi art gallery, herbal hot mineral baths, massage, cuisine, homestay tourism, visiting medicinal herb fields, ... attracting many domestic and international tourists to visit and experience.
Vice Chairman of Gia Vien District People's Committee Vu Thi Duoc said that the district is currently coordinating with Sinh Duoc craft village to organize an experiential tour "Finding the origin of Duc Thanh Nguyen" for tourists to learn about the tour connecting two locations: Duc Thanh Nguyen Temple, an ancient temple in Diem village (Gia Tien and Gia Thang communes), worshiping Zen master Nguyen Minh Khong and Sinh Duoc craft village, creating an interesting experience about medicinal plants, traditional medicine and cultural, historical, religious and architectural values of the locality for a large number of people and tourists, especially students and foreign visitors.
Ms. Cao Thi Thach Thao, a tourist from Thai Binh, happily shared: "I had the opportunity to visit here and see with my own eyes the local people using local medicinal plants to create medicinal products for bathing and soaking, which are very good for health. What impressed me was the Tet scented soap product, because it combines the ancient Vietnamese custom of bathing during Tet with coriander plants."
Mr. Pham Manh Ha, Deputy Director of the Rural Development Department, Ninh Binh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, affirmed that although Sinh Duoc craft village was newly established, it is truly a bright spot with great potential for development associated with experiential tourism activities, eco-tourism, creating jobs, increasing income and improving the lives of local people. At the same time, the Department continues to pay attention and create conditions to maintain the quality and develop craft village products, service activities, preserve and develop precious medicinal plants, typical of the locality; Strengthening promotional activities, trade promotion, and market search for products. Now, with the mission of preserving and developing indigenous medicinal herbs, promoting and innovating to inherit traditional local remedies by applying science and technology to create products that suit consumers' tastes, Sinh Duoc craft village continues to improve the quality of existing products, while researching and developing new products from traditional remedies in the region, while improving the quality of facilities and standards to meet the domestic market and towards export. Along with that, the locality promotes the combination of experiential tourism and eco-tourism in craft villages; publishing books on medicinal herbs as well as connecting the culture of craft villages in the province.
