Rules of the Vietnamese Short Film Competition - Vietnamese 2025

Regulations requiring the identification of short films

according to the contest rules

A short film is a cinematic product with a plot; it is a work that fully converges the technical stages as in the production process of a cinematic work.

Target audience of the contest:

Vietnamese citizens and foreigners living and working legally in Vietnam (15 years of age or older).

GENERAL PROVISIONS

Topics: All topics permitted by Cinema Law, related to the country and people of Vietnam.

Take advantage of AI software in the process of creating works.

Candidates are allowed to use works they have created (as a director or screenwriter) within the last 3 years (as of the date the Organizing Committee begins accepting entries), and have never participated in other competitions or film festivals.

Each author can enter many works, but must have one name (stage name).

Short films must be no longer than 30 minutes. The film must have the Vietnamese logo in the upper right corner, throughout the duration (both film and trailer). The beginning of the film must have the BTC credit "Every data is priceless, back up your data today" (from Sandisk) exactly 3 seconds long. The film must be in Vietnamese (English subtitles are recommended).

Short films must comply with Facebook, YouTube and TikTok's terms of service and community guidelines.

The short film must be original, unique to the contestant and must not have previously won any other competition (if the work has won a prize and is found to be in violation, the Organizing Committee will revoke the prize and award it to other deserving works/contestants).

The author of the entry commits to take legal responsibility for his/her entry, ensuring that there are no copyright disputes (in the case of using images of individuals/groups of people, permission must be obtained to comply with current laws related to personal data protection).

The Organizing Committee has the right to adjust the timelines or add terms to suit the actual situation, with the aim of best supporting the contestants. The decisions of the Organizing Committee are final.

The Organizing Committee has the right to use images and content of the entries for communication and promotion of the contest without having to pay any fees.

The winner is responsible for paying personal income tax according to the law at the time of receiving the prize.

REGISTRATION PERIOD : From May 23, 2025 to July 7, 2025

TOTAL TIME from 23.5.2025 to 7.7.2025

includes 2 stages:

PHASE 1: SELECTION: 23.5.2025 to 3 days after the closing date for submissions - 7.7.2025.

•Candidates submit their application including filling out the required application form (https://forms.gle/GYUN743mRrTu4rxr8) + submitting a video film made within the past 3 years or recently produced. Please read the "Note" section below carefully to understand the submission regulations.

•At the end of the admission phase, the preliminary round jury will select the 20 best projects to enter the Public film round on social networking platforms such as TikTok and YouTube of Thanh Nien Newspaper, then the Jury will judge and award prizes directly.

PHASE 2: PUBLIC_AWARDING: From 7.7.2025 - 08.2025  

• The contestants/outstanding filmmaking teams of the competition will have the opportunity to interact with the Jury at the Award Ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City.

• Award-winning short films have the opportunity to be screened at the Awards Ceremony.

SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY

Each individual/group (hereinafter referred to as "candidate") will submit the following:

1.1. Short film (16:9 ratio) - with "FILM NAME".

1.2. Movie trailer (16:9 vertical ratio) - unlimited number of trailers (it is recommended to add short best cut videos to upload to Tiktok to increase the visibility of the contestant's work).

1.3. Movie posters (9:16 and 16:9).

1.4. List of members and team/individual names.

1.5. Time for receiving entries and form of submission

1.5.1 Time for receiving entries:

The submission period begins on May 23, 2025 and ends on July 7, 2025 ( Hanoi time). The electronic timestamp on the email will be used to determine the submission date.

1.5.2 Form of submission:

Submit online: Candidates submit their entries online via the Google Form application form provided by the Organizing Committee.

Direct submission: Candidates send to Thanh Nien Newspaper Editorial Office, 268 - 270 Nguyen Dinh Chieu, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City to contact the staff in charge of receiving entries: Mr. Thanh Tai, Event Department, Tel: 0911.819.181 to submit their entries.

The preliminary round selection council established by the Organizing Committee is responsible for selecting qualified works for the preliminary round and posting them on the electronic newspaper thanhnien.vn.

The technical department and contest secretary guide and support contestants to submit their entries correctly and completely according to the rules.

Naming data files: Contest entries must be named according to the structure: Contest_WORK NAME_Contestant's full name/team name (written in Vietnamese without accents).

By submitting an entry, the contestant is deemed to have agreed to all the rules and requirements of the contest, including the decisions of the Jury.
