Many plus points for student teachers to practice

Observing and interacting with many generations of student interns, teachers all have the same opinion that today's students are more mature than before. They are equipped with quite solid knowledge from teacher training colleges (partly because the entrance scores of teacher training colleges in recent years have been higher). Students are more mature in their demeanor, appearance, communication, and behavior. In particular, students are quite agile and apply technology very well. Having access to innovative programs and teaching methods at teacher training colleges, they are not surprised or confused when they come to practice at high schools. The teamwork and mutual support skills of students today are also better.

Along with that, the internship environment at high schools has many advantages. Student teacher NNPThao, a third-year student in the Mathematics department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, is doing an internship at a high school in Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City, said: "I am guided enthusiastically by the teachers. The teachers at the school are also cheerful, caring, and share experiences. The internship environment is comfortable, the facilities are adequate, and the students are polite...".

Many concerns about educational innovation

Surveying the opinions of many student teachers, we found that they still have many worries. The first concern of students is the methods of behavior. A fourth-year female student said that she found it difficult to apply educational methods, was confused in understanding students and lacked confidence in standing in the position of a teacher.

PVH student, Faculty of History, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, admitted: "At university, we only took one course on organizing educational activities, so our personal experience is very limited. Students today have also changed a lot compared to my thoughts about high school students. They are getting better and better, progressing faster in many aspects."

One of the biggest concerns of student teachers today is the rapid innovation in general schools. Especially the explosion of artificial intelligence, such as ChatGPT technology, is deeply affecting teaching and learning. What students actually learn in school today will probably be different in a year or two. Even general teachers have to undergo continuous professional training to keep up with educational innovation, so student teachers also need to learn continuously to keep up with innovation.

From that reality, it requires schools training future teachers to change their training programs and have proactive strategies so that graduates are not surprised by innovations in education and life.
