However, the city's health sector remains on high alert and is not negligent in disease prevention and control to protect high-risk groups and ensure public health.
According to the infectious disease surveillance system of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, in week 23, the entire city recorded 69 cases of Covid-19.
In week 24 (from June 9 to 15), the number of cases continued to decrease sharply, to only 32 cases, including 14 inpatients and 18 outpatients.
This decrease is equivalent to 66% compared to week 22, when the city recorded 94 cases.
This is considered a positive signal, showing that Ho Chi Minh City is gradually effectively controlling the new wave of the epidemic after the outbreak in mid-April.
However, with the characteristics of a dense population and bustling trade, the risk of disease returning still exists.
To respond to possible situations, the City Department of Health has directed medical units to strengthen monitoring and early detection of Covid-19 cases as well as new variants.
At the same time, adequate preparation of facilities, human resources and treatment processes is also maintained to ensure the capacity to admit, care for and treat patients if the number of cases increases again.
The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control is currently working closely with hospitals and the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) to conduct gene sequencing of new cases.
The goal is to monitor the spread of the NB.1.8.1 variant circulating in the city, as well as the possibility of new variants emerging in the future.
Along with professional work, community communication activities continue to be promoted to raise public awareness, especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with underlying diseases, and people who have not received enough doses of vaccine.
The rapid decline in Covid-19 cases is a notable bright spot, but not a reason to be complacent.
As the world continues to record new variants, and the nature of the SARS-CoV-2 virus is still in the process of adapting, proactive prevention and protection of oneself and the community remains a vital principle.
