Promoting table tennis training movement in the capital
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the tournament, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee Lai Ba Ha said that the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Open Table Tennis Tournament was established in 2012. Up to now, the Tournament has proven to be a prestigious playground, one of the typical examples of the socialized sports movement in the Capital.

The tournament has returned with greater competition content and number of participating units. The presence of nearly 400 professional and amateur players from 80 units from the provinces and cities of Vinh Long, Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Da Nang, Nghe An, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong participating in this year's tournament has affirmed that the organization of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper Table Tennis Tournament is increasingly meeting the desire to enjoy eye-catching matches of table tennis fans as well as the need to compete and rub shoulders of professional and amateur athletes.
“This year’s tournament has seen remarkable growth, reflected in the number of participating teams increasing by about 15% compared to last season. In order to increase the attractiveness of the tournament, we have also decided to increase the prize value to over 160 million VND, an increase of 10% compared to last season,” emphasized Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Hanoi Moi Newspaper and Deputy Head of the tournament organizing committee, Lai Ba Ha.




Where table tennis passion converges
Taking place at Cau Giay Gymnasium (No. 35 Tran Quy Kien Street, Hanoi) from November 7 to 9, 2025, this year's Hanoi Moi Newspaper Cup Table Tennis Tournament will have athletes competing in 12 events, including: Men's singles with leaders, advanced men's teams, amateur men's teams, advanced men's singles, amateur men's doubles from 45 years old and above, amateur men's singles under 45 years old, women's singles from 45 years old and above, women's singles under 45 years old, men's doubles with leaders, men's doubles with women over 45 years old, men's doubles with women under 45 years old and women's doubles over 45 years old.
To ensure the progress of the tournament, the Organizing Committee stipulates that each athlete can only participate in a maximum of 2 competitions. Notably, of the 12 events, the event that attracts the most athletes is the men's amateur team, including 48 teams participating in the amateur team event and 14 teams participating in the advanced team event. The Organizing Committee divides the competition into 16 groups for amateur team events and 4 groups for advanced team events, selecting the best teams from each group to enter the knockout round.
Deputy Secretary General of the Hanoi Table Tennis Federation Dang Ngoc Hai said that the new feature of this year's tournament is that the Organizing Committee applies the new Olympic format (1 doubles match, 4 singles matches) for the men's team event, replacing the previous Swaythling format (5 singles matches). This change is to increase the attractiveness and attract athletes to participate.

In this year's tournament, national players such as: Nguyen Duc Tuan, Dinh Anh Hoang, Le Dinh Duc, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh, Tran Mai Ngoc... all registered to participate, however, because the whole team has a long training schedule in China to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games (December 2025), they cannot participate. Units such as Hanoi, People's Public Security - T&T, Army, Hai Phong... all sent youth teams to participate. However, the tournament still has the participation of many former national players such as: Vu Thi Noel En, Nguyen Bich Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Mai, Nguyen Tuan Quynh, Vu Quang Hien, and the leading Vietnamese table tennis athletes today such as Nguyen Dang Hiep, Bui The Nghia, Vu Manh Huy, Nguyen Nhu Phong, Tran Manh Cuong, Nguyen Hoang Lam, Ta Hong Khanh, Le Van Duc, Lam Thu Cuc, Hoang Tra My, Tran Dieu Linh, Vu Hoai Thanh... promising exciting, top-notch matches.
Immediately after the opening ceremony, the 2025 Hanoi Moi Newspaper Cup Table Tennis Tournament officially started competing in the qualifying rounds of advanced men's team, amateur men's team, men's singles under 45... with an exciting and exciting atmosphere.
