Regularly in the evenings, many cultural houses and residential groups in Song Ma district maintain folk dance activities for women, contributing to improving health, bringing joy and promoting the development of cultural, artistic and sports activities at the grassroots level.
It has become a tradition that from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every evening, after completing their household chores, members of the Hung Mai Village Folk Dance Club, Na Nghiu Commune, gather at the village cultural house to practice dances. For the members, folk dances not only help improve health and maintain shape, but also create excitement, joy, and optimism. Ms. Pham Thi Sau, Club Director, shared: The club was established in 2022 with 43 members. At first, some members were hesitant, but after a period of practice, they became bold and actively practiced. Folk dance is not too complicated, the steps are fun, the costumes are comfortable, so I personally love it. In addition to practice time, women have more opportunities to strengthen solidarity, share knowledge about health care, and experience in building happy families.
The Chieng Cang Women's Association has established two folk dance teams and one ballroom dance team. In addition to practicing, the teams are also invited to perform at weddings and housewarmings, enriching the spiritual life of the local people. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Van, a member of the folk dance team of the Trung Chau Women's Association, shared: Before joining the folk dance club, my arms and legs often ached. Since joining the folk dance, my health has improved significantly, and my spirit is joyful and excited.
Up to now, Song Ma district has 15 folk dance clubs and teams in communes and towns. Club members have elected a management board; built specific regulations and directions of operation, in accordance with the thoughts and aspirations of the women. Through this movement, the folk dance clubs and teams also gather core members, practice and perfect their dances to perform at events, programs and conferences.
Ms. Lo Thi Hue, Vice President of the Women's Union of Song Ma district, informed: To improve the health of members, the Union has encouraged branches to establish clubs, folk dance teams, and dance teams. Coordinate with organizations, organize exchanges, and art performances, spreading the folk dance movement widely in the community. In particular, through training sessions, branches integrate, propagate, and disseminate knowledge to members about reproductive health care and family planning, environmental sanitation, building a "5 no, 3 clean" family... Thanks to this useful playground, the position and role of the Union organization is increasingly enhanced.
In early 2022, the District Women's Union directed local associations to launch the online folk dance competition "Healthy and Beautiful Dance" launched by the Central Association. The Association directed the folk dance clubs and teams to create videos and clips for the competition and share them on social networking sites. Based on the evaluation of the quality of the dance, the clip staging and the number of interactions and shares on social networks of each team, the Song Ma District Women's Union selected the Pho Nui Folk Dance Team (Song Ma Town) to participate in the online competition "Healthy and Beautiful Dance" organized by the Provincial Women's Union and won second prize. Most impressively, on International Women's Day, March 8, the District Women's Union organized the folk dance exchange program "Healthy and Beautiful Dance" with the participation of 14 teams from communes and towns in the district. The teams performed 28 folk dances to the music of songs praising the homeland, country, family, and the fine traditions of Vietnamese women. With careful preparation and investment in costumes suitable for each performance, they attracted a large audience to watch and cheer.
Folk dancing has attracted a large number of members and women in Song Ma district to practice, creating more playgrounds to help women have access to entertainment, exercise, and build the image of confident, modern women.
