Thanks to the policy suitable to reality, Son La has more than 85,000 hectares of fruit trees and hawthorn trees, an increase of 219% in area compared to 2016, output increased by 332%; reaching 81.14% compared to the target for 2025.
Son La province has converted 33,189 hectares of food crops on sloping land and ineffective crops. Of these, 1,259 hectares of upland rice land, 30,599 hectares of corn land, 716 hectares of cassava land and 615 hectares of coffee land have been converted to fruit trees.

The conversion of industrial and food crops with low economic efficiency into fruit trees has exploited the potential and strengths of Son La province, bringing about economic restructuring; applying intensive farming processes to increase productivity and product quality.
Son La province has 8 crop growing areas that have been granted decisions to recognize high-tech application areas, including 5 fruit growing areas of custard apple, longan, mango, and plum in the districts, reaching 200% of the target set for 2025.

In 2016, Son La had no fruit growing area with a code for growing areas and packaging facilities. Up to now, Son La has maintained 218 growing area codes, including 202 fruit growing area codes for export, 16 growing area codes for the cultivation sector with a total area of 3,142 hectares and 8 export packaging facility codes for longan, mango, macadamia and passion fruit.
The province currently has 31 agricultural products bearing the geographical name of Son La province that have been granted protection certificates by the Department of Intellectual Property. Compared to 2016, there were 30 more products granted protection; there are 59 OCOP products produced and processed from fruits.

From 2016 to present, Son La province has established 335 enterprises, cooperatives, and cooperative unions growing fruit trees with an area of 6,766 hectares, an increase of 297 enterprises and cooperatives growing fruit trees compared to 2015.
In 2015, Son La mainly processed by hand. By 2025, the whole province will have 560 factories and agricultural processing facilities, including 17 factories and 543 facilities; there will be more than 2,700 longan and agricultural product drying facilities and 40 cold storage facilities, contributing to extending the preservation time, reducing post-harvest losses, and reducing the pressure on consumption of fresh fruit products when the harvest season comes in a short time.

In addition to solving economic problems, Son La province has solved jobs and income for farmers by attracting 3 large fruit processing factories and small and medium-sized fruit processing facilities in the area associated with developing raw material areas in districts and cities.
Through the development of fruit production and processing cooperatives, it has contributed to the successful implementation of criterion 13 on production organization of the National Target Program on New Rural Development, creating jobs and stable income for nearly 5,000 workers, contributing to stabilizing life and sustainable poverty reduction, especially in ethnic minority areas.
