Applying modern technology to develop products from ST25 rice bran

NDO - On May 16, at Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST), CVI Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Joint Stock Company and the Department of Science and Technology of Soc Trang province signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in research and development of products from ST25 rice bran.

According to scientists at VKIST, ST25 rice is not only known as the world's best rice brand, but is also a source of indigenous raw materials rich in biological potential, especially from ST25 rice bran, a by-product of rice processing.

ST25 rice bran is a nutrient-rich silk layer surrounding rice grains, accounting for a small proportion but containing a high density of biological active ingredients.

For example, Gamma-oryzanol is a powerful antioxidant that helps slow down skin aging, lower cholesterol, protect the heart, and regulate hormones. Vitamin E (tocopherol and tocotrienol) has moisturizing, anti-aging, skin-brightening, and natural protective barrier effects.

Plant ceramides regenerate the skin's lipid layer, repair damage and maintain long-lasting moisture. Essential fatty acids and plant sterols help fight inflammation, regenerate skin cells and support the natural immune barrier. Polysaccharides and trace minerals nourish cells, help brighten and strengthen skin resistance.

The cooperation between VKIST Institute and CVI Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Company aims to apply modern extraction technologies, helping to extract and enrich active ingredients to achieve high purity, ensuring quality standards for application in the pharmaceutical industry, functional foods, health care products and cosmetics. The technologies that will be applied are: CO supercritical extraction; Enzyme and microemulsification technology; Liposome and nano-emulsion technology.

A representative of CVI Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Company said that the goal of the cooperation is to develop functional food and cosmetic product lines with high scientific content from ST25 rice bran, focusing on: Beauty care products; health protection foods; green personal care and hygiene products.

This is a strategic step to increase the value of national agricultural products through science and technology, develop a high-value product ecosystem, and affirm the pioneering role of enterprises, research institutes and the Department of Science and Technology of Soc Trang in innovation.
