Lo River proactively prevents and mitigates natural disasters

With the motto of "prevention is the main thing", Song Lo district is actively propagating and mobilizing people to raise awareness and proactively prevent and combat natural disasters (PCTT); regularly review and assess the situation, ensure the safety of the dike system, dams; arrange forces and means to be ready to mobilize according to the motto "4 on-site"... to minimize damage caused by natural disasters.

In Song Lo district, there is a basic system of flood prevention dikes that ensures safety against floods according to the designed flood frequency, including: the left dike of Lo River running through the area with a length of 27.9 km; the Don Nhan dike with a length of 4.3 km; 3 drainage systems, the main drainage axis flowing into Lo River and a fairly complete system of embankments, culverts, and pumping stations. This is an important flood prevention system, helping to protect the lives and property of the people and the State during the rainy and stormy season.

In order to proactively prevent and mitigate natural disasters, the People's Committee of Song Lo district issued documents directing functional branches and localities to step up propaganda, raise awareness, vigilance and equip people with disaster response skills.

Strengthening inspection, firmly grasping the area, consolidating the irrigation canal system, protecting agricultural production; developing plans and scenarios for disaster prevention and control according to each period and the reality of each locality.

Coordinate with the Dike Management Department of Song Lo district, Lap Thach Irrigation Company Limited and the People's Committees of communes and towns to assess the safety level of the system of reservoirs, canals, ditches, pumping stations, develop plans for repair, renovation, upgrading, promptly fix damage, and ensure safety for the irrigation system during the rainy and stormy season.

Direct local departments and branches to proactively review and supplement equipment to ensure disaster prevention and control work according to the "4 on-site" motto.

Up to now, the district has completed the renovation and upgrading of the Drainage Sluice at route K0+300 and the Ngac Sluice at route K12+800. Clearing and clearing barriers, local dredging, ensuring flood drainage at small drainage channels, in-field channels and 6 main drainage axes managed by Lap Thach Irrigation One Member Co., Ltd.

At the same time, identify key weak points in the area including the embankment section from K20 - K21 + 500 in Soi beach area, Tu Yen commune; embankment section from K3 + 050 - K3 + 300 and from K3 + 410 - K3 + 750 in Bach Luu commune.

Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Song Lo district, said: To proactively take measures to prevent and control natural disasters and search and rescue, before the 2024 storm season, the staff office of the district People's Committee will complete the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue and develop plans and solutions to deal with key areas under its management. At the same time, inspect the current status of important dykes, bridges, and culverts to promptly propose remedial measures.

With the motto of "4 on-site" and "3 ready", up to this point, the PCTT&TKCN work in the area has been completed, ensuring to minimize damage to people and property when natural disasters occur.

According to the forecast of the Central Hydrometeorological Center, the weather and hydrology in this year's rainy and stormy season will have many complex, unpredictable and irregular developments.

To proactively respond to all situations, the District Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control directed the People's Committees of communes and towns to establish and strengthen the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control, develop a plan for disaster prevention and control, and strengthen the commune-level disaster prevention and control shock team.

Thoroughly implement the principles of "Proactive prevention, timely response, urgent and effective remediation" and the "4 on-site" motto.

Focus on checking, reviewing and having plans to improve the safety of the PCTT system; reserve materials, means, food and other necessary necessities to respond and support promptly before, during and after natural disasters, quickly restore production and stabilize people's lives when bad situations occur.

Improve the capacity of search and rescue work; direct and guide communes to arrange warning barriers in areas with overflows and overflows when floods occur.

The People's Committees of communes and towns regularly direct cooperatives and grassroots irrigation teams to inspect dams, canals, pumping stations, and vulnerable points at risk of landslides and flooding before the rainy and stormy season to promptly report and propose solutions.

At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee is requested to pay attention to and prioritize the allocation of capital to renovate and upgrade the drainage channel from Nhan Lac, Nhan Dao commune to Phuong Khoan commune to the Cau Ngac drainage axis; renovate and upgrade the remaining sections of the Cau Mai drainage axis, Cau Dua drainage axis and 2 km of Ong Bui drainage canal to ensure timely and effective flood control and drainage work, and protect agricultural production in the area.
