Taking advantage of climate and soil, Song Ma border district has developed many effective agricultural models, contributing to increasing income and creating changes for the border area.
Supporting people to develop agricultural production, from 2020 to now, Song Ma district has invested more than 10 billion VND to implement 16 agricultural models. Notable models are: Growing Ha Den grapes; supporting the development of egg-laying chicken farming from the district's economic career capital; developing free-range chicken farming linked to the value chain, linked to product consumption; developing breeding cows linked to the value chain, linked to product consumption; planting and caring for fruit trees (mangoes) linked to the development value chain; supporting new planting to expand the value chain of fruit trees; developing Queen pineapple raw material areas; restoring Tan Luong sticky rice; growing mangoes in Muong Et district, Hua Phan province, Lao PDR... Over the implementation period, these models have been assessed as highly effective, bringing stable income to farmers.
Present at Ha Den vineyard, Quyet Tien village, Na Nghiu commune, right at harvest time. Thanks to good care, this year the grapes produce more beautiful and delicious fruit, with higher productivity. This model was invested by the district with 200 million VND for Song Ma Agricultural and Forestry Company Limited to implement. The implementation period started in March 2020, the model will be completed and handed over in July 2021.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Vuong, Director of the Company, said: Realizing that the climate and soil conditions of Song Ma are suitable for the Ha Den grape variety, in May 2020, the Company invested 200 million VND to build a 5,000 m² net house system to bring in seedlings for planting. All seedlings were initially purchased with support from Duy Khanh Joint Stock Company by the district. This is the first Ha Den grape garden successfully planted in Song Ma district and is also an OCOP product of the district in 2023. Up to now, the Company has expanded to 1 hectare, the grape trees are growing well, the harvest area is over 50%; this year, the fruit yield is about 5 tons, the selling price ranges from 120,000 - 160,000 VND/kg.
The model to support the development of egg-laying chicken farming using high technology, from the district's economic career capital, with a total capital of over 300 million VND, was implemented by Mrs. Tran Thi Yen's family, Thong Nhat village, Chieng Khuong commune, from December 2020 and handed over in December 2024. The model has a scale of 4,400 reserve hens, of which the State supports 1,425, the rest are from the family. Initially, the model was assessed to be highly effective, creating jobs for many workers with stable income.

Ms. Yen informed: To implement the model, my family invested 1.1 billion VND. building barns, shelves, ventilation fan system for cooling water... In addition, the family also invested nearly 2.8 billion VND to buy breeds, food, labor... The chickens started laying eggs after about 30 days, an average of 3,500 eggs per day, reaching 80% of egg-laying chickens; the average selling price is 2,100 VND/egg, consumed mainly in the markets of Song Ma and Sop Cop districts. Each year, after deducting expenses, the model earns a profit of nearly 400 million VND.
One of the solutions that Song Ma district prioritizes is to transfer scientific and technical advances, provide technical guidance on plant and animal care to implement the models. At the same time, propagate and disseminate the policies and guidelines of the Party and State on agricultural economic development to the people in the district.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Director of the District Agricultural Service Center, informed: In 2023, the Center has deployed 14 training courses, attracting 430 participants, with the following contents: Policy mechanisms, spinach growing techniques; instructions for collecting pesticide packaging; restoration process, cultivation techniques and identification, pest control on Tan Luong rice varieties; livestock breeding techniques and fruit tree care...
In addition, the Center also organized 208 propaganda sessions for nearly 8,000 people in the villages, with the following contents: Instructions on planting and caring for Queen pineapple; preventing pests and diseases for crops; preventing and protecting crops and livestock from cold... Organized 2 seminars in Yen Hung and Nam Man communes, with 90 participants, on evaluating the effectiveness of the spinach growing model; replicating the tan luong rice cultivation model.

In 2023, the Center will coordinate with the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture to conduct a pilot model of new fragrant rice varieties N91, fragrant sticky rice NV1, NV3 with a scale of 3,000 m2 , in Chieng Cang and Huoi Mot communes. Up to now, the rice has been harvested, with a yield of 60 quintals/ha or more. Coordinate with the Institute of Soil Chemistry to implement a soil improvement model for longan cultivation in Lien Phuong village, Chieng Khoong commune. Coordinate with Song Lam Tay Bac Fertilizer Joint Stock Company to implement a pilot model of organic fertilizer on rice in Chieng Cang village, Chieng Cang commune. Coordinate with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to implement a pineapple intensive farming model according to VietGAP standards with a scale of 3 hectares, in Huoi Mo village, Chieng Khuong commune...
The district's agricultural models are deployed to ensure suitability for each region, production conditions and farming level of the people, increasing income and enhancing the value of agricultural production in the district. The district has also directed specialized agencies to strengthen links with organizations and enterprises to find stable output for products; continue to transfer technical advances suitable to local conditions, potentials and advantages, contributing to the formation of new economic models, helping farmers increase income and improve their lives.
