According to the Khmer Times, a post on Prime Minister Hun Sen's official Facebook page earlier this year described him as "the most respected and supported prime minister in the world and the longest-serving prime minister in the world."

Specifically, the article said that over the past 38 years, Cambodia has experienced countless obstacles, but Cambodia's most experienced leader has led the country's development and created a good image of Cambodia in the international arena.

Mr. Hun Sen became Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Kampuchea in 1979 after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime, when he was only 27 years old. He then served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1981-1985.

Mr. Hun Sen took office as prime minister for the first time on January 14, 1985 after the Cambodian National Assembly unanimously elected him to succeed Mr. Chan Sy, who died in office in December 1984.

Mr. Hun Sen became the world's youngest prime minister at the time at the age of 32 and served as Foreign Minister until 1991.

He previously served as "acting prime minister" for more than three months after Mr. Sy went to Moscow for medical treatment and died in the Soviet Union at that time. He became prime minister at a time when Cambodia was in dire need of food due to floods and drought in 1984.

"I became prime minister at the age of 32 and Cambodia was in a state of both peace and war," said Mr. Hun Sen.

Although the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) lost to the royalist Funcinpec party in the 1993 national election, Hun Sen shared power with Prince Norodom Ranariddh as "second prime minister".

In 1987, Mr. Hun Sen began talks with then Cambodian King Norodom Sihanouk in France, paving the way for the signing of the 1993 Paris Peace Accords, which led to the holding of general elections in 1993.

CPP spokesman Sok Eysan affirmed that Mr. Hun Sen has had numerous achievements as prime minister, including bringing peace, national reconciliation and development to Cambodia.

Senate President Say Chhum said that Mr. Hun Sen has helped Cambodia unite the country, achieve political stability, peace and development in all fields so that people can live in harmony, prosperity and glory.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on July 26 that he would step down after nearly four decades in power. Mr. Hun Sen said his son, Mr. Hun Manet, would lead a new government.

The Prime Minister affirmed that he would not interfere with Mr. Hun Manet's work as Prime Minister. According to Mr. Hun Sen, the resignation is the beginning of long-term stability, the foundation for development.
