The Department of Construction is currently carrying out repairs to Phong Thu Bridge to maintain the bridge's operational capacity and serve the travel needs of the people. In order for the repair to ensure quality and safety, the Department of Construction has announced a temporary suspension of traffic on Phong Thu Bridge for cars, trucks and other motor vehicles (except for motorbikes, scooters and rudimentary vehicles).

Accordingly, traffic will be temporarily suspended for 15 minutes every hour from 11pm to 5am from May 19 to May 24, 2025 to repair and strengthen the cross-link. Particularly, from 11pm on May 20 to 1am on May 21, 2025, traffic will be temporarily suspended for exactly 2 hours to repair the bridge bearings.

During the above-mentioned temporary traffic suspension, vehicles can move in the following directions: Vehicles traveling on DT609 to National Highway 1 will go from Ai Nghia intersection (Ai Nghia town, Dai Loc district) turn right onto DT609B road, cross Giao Thuy bridge and then turn left onto National Highway 14H to National Highway 1 at Nam Phuoc intersection (Nam Phuoc town, Duy Xuyen district); or go down to Cam Ly intersection (Dien Hong commune, Dien Ban town) turn left and follow DT605 road through Bo Bo hill to National Highway 1 and vice versa.

The Department of Construction requested the Provincial Police Traffic Police Department and the Department of Construction Inspectorate to support the arrangement of functional forces to guide vehicles during the temporary suspension of traffic through Phong Thu Bridge. The Quang Nam Traffic Infrastructure Management Center organized the implementation and guided DTL Mechanical and Environmental Construction Company Limited to arrange traffic guides and install traffic signs according to regulations.

It is known that on the afternoon of December 30, 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued Official Dispatch No. 10257 on traffic organization and strengthening inspection and handling of overloaded vehicles crossing Phong Thu bridge, on route DT609 through Dien Tho commune (Dien Ban town). Previously, the Department of Transport (now the Department of Construction) issued Official Dispatch No. 5435 to the Provincial People's Committee for advice on directing traffic organization and strengthening inspection and handling of overloaded vehicles crossing Phong Thu bridge.

The reason is that during the time of traffic diversion due to the ban on cars crossing the new Cau Lau Bridge on National Highway 1, the traffic volume of heavy trucks (many exceeding the permitted load) crossing the Phong Thu Bridge increased dramatically, causing the bridge to be damaged, with the risk of a bridge collapse. The Provincial People's Committee has agreed to ban semi-trailers from crossing the bridge from December 28, 2024.
