Mr. Bui Huy Cuong, Deputy Head of Service Management Department - Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information (PTTH-TTĐT), said: "Radio and television broadcasting services have recently met the information and propaganda needs of the Party and the State. However, it is forecasted that in the coming time, revenue will decrease. The development trend of pay-TV radio and television services will be OTT TV services and we currently have all the favorable conditions in both policies and infrastructure to develop OTT TV services."
Accordingly, revenue from radio and television broadcasting services in 2024 will be about 200 billion VND. For domestic pay-TV (PTT) radio and television services, traditional PTT service subscribers will decrease sharply to 10.3%, OTT TV service subscribers will increase sharply by 24.1%, and total market PTT service subscribers will increase slightly by 2%.
Traditional TV subscription revenue decreased by 9.7%, OTT TV subscription revenue increased by 32.8%, only about 1/3 of traditional TV subscription revenue. Total subscription revenue of the whole market decreased by 2.7%.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hai, representative of VNPT Group, said that the fact that subscribers are increasing but revenue is decreasing is something worth pondering. Therefore, units need to continue to optimize technology and minimize risks in the business process.
According to Mr. Tran Van Uy, Chairman of the Vietnam Pay TV Association, the issue of copyright infringement is not a new issue but has existed for more than 10 years. Copyright issues in cyberspace have been proposed to be handled many times but it is not easy to completely handle.
The Chairman of the Vietnam Pay Television Association emphasized that regarding the issue of copyright protection in cyberspace, the Association will continue to coordinate with the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information to report violations and propose that the Department send a report to the Department of Cyber Security - Ministry of Public Security to propose support in blocking infringing links.
