The project "Research on creating small diameter vascular grafts using a bioreactor system" (code DTĐL.CN-49/22), led by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Le Bao Ha, University of Science - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, has opened up a new and promising direction in the field of vascular transplantation and regenerative medicine.

The project aims at three main objectives: Building a process of removing cells from some types of human and animal blood vessels to obtain acellular blood vessels; creating acellular small diameter vascular grafts and regenerating cells using a bioreactor system; testing the applicability of grafts on experimental animals. The research process is implemented synchronously from in vitro testing, on cells to animal models, ensuring scientific validity and practical applicability.

The research results confirm the feasibility of fabricating small diameter vascular grafts using cell bleaching and regenerating technology, using a bioreactor system. This not only creates a new biomedical product, but also provides a solid scientific foundation for further research, while contributing to improving the research capacity and training of scientific staff at domestic and foreign research facilities.

Notably, the project also promotes professional cooperation, experience exchange, and training for young researchers. The results have been published in many domestic and international journals, demonstrating the scientific value and practical application of the project. In particular, the successful manufacture of vascular grafts from animal blood vessels opens up new options for therapies to treat cardiovascular diseases, which have the highest mortality rate today.

In terms of socio -economic efficiency, vascular graft products create great potential in public health care. If research and product development continue, this technology can reduce treatment costs, limit medical burden and improve the quality of life for patients. In addition, the application of new technology in the manufacture of vascular grafts also opens up opportunities for the development of the regenerative medicine industry in Vietnam, contributing to improving competitiveness in the fields of medicine and biotechnology.

With the results achieved, the project marks an important step forward in basic and applied scientific research, creating the premise for high-tech biomedical solutions, meeting modern health care needs and moving towards a sustainable regenerative medicine future.
