Indian naval ship INS Darshak visits Ho Chi Minh City

The friendly visit to Ho Chi Minh City by an Indian naval ship contributes to promoting defense and maritime security cooperation between the two countries.

On May 29, the Indian naval survey ship INS Darshak, commanded by Colonel Praveen Thomas, docked at Saigon Port, beginning a friendly visit to Ho Chi Minh City from May 29 to 31, 2025. This event marks a new step forward in the defense and maritime cooperation between Vietnam and India, contributing to strengthening peace , stability and sustainable development at sea.

The ship welcoming ceremony was solemnly held at Saigon port, with the presence of representatives of the Southern Vietnam Navy Command, the Naval Region 2 Command, the Department of Foreign Affairs - Ministry of National Defense , the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs and functional agencies of the city.

Speaking at a press conference on board the ship, Captain Praveen Thomas emphasized: “This visit is an important milestone in the Vietnam-India relationship, especially in the field of naval cooperation. We expect the event to promote trust, enhance understanding and strengthen maritime security in the Indo- Pacific region.”

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Foreign Affairs, during their stay in the city, the officers and crew of the INS Darshak will participate in many diplomatic activities and cultural and defense exchanges. The delegation will lay flowers in memory of President Ho Chi Minh at the Uncle Ho statue park on Nguyen Hue walking street, pay courtesy visits to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the Military Region 7 Command and the Naval Region 2.

In addition, the crew will participate in sports exchanges with the Vietnamese navy, visit scenic spots in the city and open the ship to welcome delegations to visit and learn.

INS Darshak is one of the modern survey ships of the Indian Navy, equipped with advanced positioning, measurement and sensor systems for ocean survey, ensuring maritime safety and supporting civil-military missions at sea.

Vietnam and India are now comprehensive strategic partners, in which defense and maritime security cooperation is one of the key pillars. The visit of INS Darshak is not only a symbol of the friendly relations between the two countries, but also demonstrates the active and responsible role of both countries in building a peaceful, safe and sustainably developed maritime region.
