The Department of Occupational Safety, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, stated that the New Year's Day holiday in 2024 will be implemented in accordance with the regulations of the 2019 Labour Code.
In 2024, New Year's Day falls on Monday, January 1st. Therefore, employees will have one day off with full pay.
However, December 30th and 31st fall on a Saturday and Sunday. Therefore, during the 2024 New Year's holiday, civil servants and employees at state agencies will have a continuous 3-day break.
For employees with a 2-day weekend (Saturday and Sunday), the New Year's Day holiday will be 3 consecutive days off, including the 2 regular weekend days (Saturday and Sunday) and the 1 public holiday (Monday).

If working at a company with a one-day-a-week rest schedule (Sunday), employees will have a two-day New Year's holiday in 2024, from December 31, 2023 to January 1, 2024.
After more than a month of New Year's Day holiday, workers will have a 7-day Lunar New Year holiday, from the 29th day of the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit to the 5th day of the 1st lunar month of the Year of the Dragon (February 8-14, 2024). Civil servants and workers will have two days off before Tet, three days after Tet, plus two compensatory days off because the holiday falls on a weekend.
The National Day holiday lasts four days, from August 31st to September 3rd, 2024, from Saturday to the following Tuesday. Civil servants and workers do not need compensatory leave, making it convenient for them to arrange work, travel , or return to their hometowns; parents and students have more time to prepare before the annual school opening day.
The remaining holidays in 2024 will be implemented according to the Labor Code, but will be shorter as they fall in the middle of the week.
Specifically, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day (10th day of the 3rd lunar month) will be a one-day holiday, Thursday, April 18, 2024.
National Reunification Day and International Labor Day are two days off, April 30th - May 1st, 2024, from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The above holiday schedule applies to civil servants and public employees, but the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs encourages businesses to allow employees to take leave according to the general schedule. For the Lunar New Year holiday specifically, businesses should notify employees of the holiday schedule 30 days in advance.
Workers who work overtime, at night, or during public holidays are entitled to at least 300% of their regular pay. Foreigners working in Vietnam, in addition to the standard holiday schedule, are also entitled to one extra day off for their traditional Tet holiday and one extra day off for their national day.
