On July 28, at a joint press conference after the negotiations, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. The ceasefire took effect after midnight on July 28.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar declared: "The immediate and unconditional ceasefire takes effect from midnight tonight. This is the final order."
"This is an important first step towards reducing tensions and restoring peace. The two sides also agreed to resume direct dialogue at the level of Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Defense Minister."
The two sides also agreed to restore direct communication channels.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that after the ceasefire takes effect, Thai and Cambodian military commanders will have an “informal meeting” at 7am on July 29. A meeting of defense attachés chaired by the ASEAN chairman will then be held on August 4.
Speaking at a press conference, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet called the talks “a very successful meeting” and expressed hope for an “immediate” end to the fighting. He said that about 300,000 people had been displaced on both sides during the conflict.
The Cambodian leader thanked Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, US President Donald Trump and the Chinese government for their role in the reconciliation process. He also thanked Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai for his constructive engagement in the negotiations.
Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his belief that the outcome of the negotiations will “open up many opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people on both sides to return to normal life soon.” He stressed: “This is the time to start rebuilding trust and confidence between Cambodia and Thailand in the coming time.”
For his part, Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai said the ceasefire was negotiated by Thailand “in good faith”, and affirmed Thailand's commitment to pursuing peace.
Acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet began talks at around 3:15 p.m. on July 28 at the residence of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is currently the rotating chair of ASEAN. Both the United States and China sent representatives to support the negotiation process.
