On the afternoon of June 12, in Hanoi , the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union (VYU) held a conference to collect comments on the draft project "Youth participating in preserving and promoting Vietnamese national cultural identity for the period 2024-2029".
Bridge bringing traditional culture into modern life
In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Youth Union, said that young people play an important role in preserving, restoring and promoting national culture, acting as a bridge to bring traditional culture into modern life, while introducing Vietnamese identity to the world .
Mr. Nguyen Tuong Lam affirmed that the Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Federation always accompany young people in raising awareness and implementing specific actions to encourage young people to have a correct cultural thinking foundation, to appreciate and promote traditional values and national cultural values through specific programs and contents.
The Resolution of the Vietnam Youth Union Congress has set out one of the key tasks of the term as developing a Project on Youth participation in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation.
The President of the Vietnam Youth Union emphasized that culture is the soul of the nation, a sustainable endogenous resource for development. The Vietnamese cultural identity was formed and developed over thousands of years of building and defending the country, crystallized in language, customs, beliefs, festivals, costumes, music , cuisine and even in the lifestyle, thinking and ethics of each region and each community.
"As a major social force, a team inheriting the revolutionary cause and a key force in the innovation process, young people play an extremely important role in preserving, restoring and promoting national culture. With their youthful strength, sensitivity to new things, creativity and sense of responsibility to the community, young people are the bridge to bring traditional culture into modern life, while introducing Vietnamese identity to the world," affirmed the Secretary of the Central Youth Union.

Training a team of "young cultural ambassadors" of overseas Vietnamese
At the Conference, Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (VAO), said that VAO youth are a force with great potential, playing the role of a bridge between the homeland and the world, carrying Vietnamese values in an internationalized spirit.
Proposing specific tasks for overseas Vietnamese youth, Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Mai emphasized, First, build a communication program, educate Vietnamese culture for overseas Vietnamese youth through modern forms such as e-learning, podcasts, interactive games in Vietnamese and bilingual. At the same time, organize summer camps, online and in-person courses in Vietnam for overseas Vietnamese youth, focusing on the fields of national culture, history, language, traditional arts. In the opposite direction, support young people to participate in cultural events in the host country (Vietnam Festival, Culture - Tourism Week), inspiring pride in their roots.
Second, establish a global Vietnamese youth network with regional coordinators, connected with domestic youth organizations such as the Vietnam Youth Union, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and the UNESCO Center for Educational and Cultural Cooperation in Vietnam.
Organize annual or online forums on “Youth and Cultural Heritage”, inviting overseas youth representatives to share initiatives and models for preserving culture in their home countries. Support leadership skills, community work, and organize events for overseas youth to proactively organize Vietnamese cultural festivals, Vietnamese pim weeks, and Vietnamese language classes. Select and train a team of “young cultural ambassadors” of overseas Vietnamese…
Encourage overseas Vietnamese youth to apply digital technology to create virtual museums and digital libraries of Vietnamese culture designed by young people themselves. Launch an international competition on Vietnamese cultural creation in the digital space such as making short films, designing games, digital photos, and Vietnamese language learning applications.
"Overseas Vietnamese youth are a core force, full of enthusiasm, with advantages and the ability to integrate quickly. If given the right conditions, they can absolutely become ambassadors to spread Vietnamese cultural values globally," Ms. Ngo Thi Thanh Mai emphasized.

Touching the emotions of young people
From the perspective of a young person, Miss Luong Thuy Linh said she deeply understands that culture is the spiritual identity of a nation. "A country may be small in area, but if it has a unique culture and young people who know how to tell stories about culture, it will never be small in the eyes of friends from all over the world," the beauty queen said.
Giving her opinion, Miss Luong Thuy Linh said: First, the project needs to add more inspirational elements and be closer to young people. Nowadays, young people live in a very fast-moving world, with a digital lifestyle and digital language. Therefore, preserving culture needs to be communicated in a new way.
She hopes the project can transform big messages into small and easy actions, so that young people can carry out cultural check-in campaigns. For example, young people can visit relics, craft villages, enjoy a special dish and tell their stories on social networks.
Along with that, build a system of people who love culture, spread traditional values naturally and touch the emotions of young people. If culture is the soul, social networks are the space to transmit positive energy and love for culture.
Second, the project could focus more on bringing Vietnamese culture to the world through young people. She believes that it should be creative for international young people to understand Vietnamese culture. It is entirely possible to build a multilingual digital platform about Vietnamese culture - where young Vietnamese people at home and abroad can create, contribute and share national cultural content.
According to the young girl, it is necessary to focus on promoting the role of the Vietnamese youth community abroad. Because they are the ambassadors who tell cultural stories in the heart of the world. If connected, trained, inspired and supported, they will help Vietnamese culture go further.
"Understanding one's own cultural roots is a solid foundation that makes a difference for young people when they step out into the world. If we consider economic and social achievements as sweet fruits, then culture will certainly be the root that silently nourishes and helps the tree of life to be strong and bear fruit," said Miss Luong Thuy Linh.
In the draft project, to promote the role of youth in preserving and promoting national cultural identity, it is proposed to include propaganda, activities to create an environment and support youth in economic development. Notably, there are courses organized on preserving and promoting cultural heritage, traditional art forms such as Cheo singing, Tuong singing, Cai Luong singing, puppetry, Quan Ho singing, Ca Tru singing, regional folk songs; traditional dance; visual arts; crafts, traditional games; folk literature... Periodically provide information, training, foster knowledge, skills, and expertise in cultural fields; increase cultural exchange and experience activities for Association officials. Designing experiential lessons on the culture of ethnic groups in the general education program such as: Learning folk songs, languages, folk games, learning about traditional costumes, festivals. At the same time, the project aims at many activities to promote the role of youth in participating in the fight against the infiltration and influence of counter-cultural phenomena, the sabotage of hostile forces in the ideological - cultural field, preventing offensive behaviors, contrary to good customs and traditions, going against the good cultural traditions of the nation. |
