Brave young man saves 4 family members from drowning

On May 10, Major Tran Van Thanh, Captain of the Team Building the Movement to Protect National Security (Nam Giang District Police, Quang Nam Province) said that the team is advising the Chairman of the District People's Committee to commend, encourage and spread the brave example of Mr. Le Van Hoi who saved 4 people from drowning.

Previously, on the afternoon of May 3, the family of Ms. Le Thi Huong (41 years old, residing in Thanh My 2, Thanh My town, Nam Giang, Quang Nam) organized a trip to bathe in Cong Doan stream (Ma Cooi commune, Dong Giang district).

Upon arriving, the family members immediately went down to the stream. After about 20 minutes, her 5-year-old son slipped into deep water. Huong’s aunt reached out to pull the child but slipped and fell.

Seeing the situation threatening the lives of her child and aunt, Ms. Huong immediately rushed to the rescue but also drowned. Ms. Huong's husband continued to come to the rescue, but because he could not swim, he was also caught in the whirlpool.

At that time, Mr. Le Van Hoi (35 years old, residing in Ha Ra, Thanh My) was standing on the shore and jumped into the stream. Mr. Hoi dived down, found a position to push the 3 drowning people to the shore first and then saved Ms. Huong.

On the afternoon of May 9, Ms. Huong's family also came to meet and thank Mr. Le Van Hoi and his wife. Along with that, Ms. Huong wrote a letter of thanks for Mr. Le Van Hoi's brave action and sent it to the Movement Building Team (Nam Giang District Police).

Mr. Le Van Hoi said: “In that situation, I decided to jump into the stream to save people, without thinking that it would threaten my own life. Saving Ms. Huong’s whole family was a joy and happiness for me and my family…”

According to Major Tran Van Thanh, in the coming time, the Team for Building the National Security Protection Movement will advise the Chief of Nam Giang Police to propose to the Chairman of the District People's Committee to commend, encourage and promote the brave example of Le Van Hoi. At the same time, discuss with the Quang Nam Provincial Youth Union and Nam Giang District Youth Union to carry out procedures to request the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to award the "Brave Youth" badge to Le Van Hoi.
