Hue City reviews and evaluates work at museums and relics
Regarding the display and preservation of documents and artifacts at museums, Hue city has two museum systems including the public museum system ( Ho Chi Minh Museum of Hue city, Hue City History Museum, Hue Fine Arts Museum, Hue Royal Antiquities Museum, Central Coastal Nature Museum) and non-public museums (Nguyen Dynasty Porcelain Museum, General Nguyen Chi Thanh Museum, Huong River Ancient Pottery Museum, Cecile Le Pham Fine Arts Museum).
The management of import and export of artifacts of museums for display and exhibition must comply with the correct procedures. Scientifically inventoried artifacts of the Museum are all registered, classified and research forms (passport forms, system forms, etc.) must be created in accordance with the correct principles.
Depending on the specific characteristics, each museum has its own preservation plan. Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue City includes 2 warehouses: a warehouse with required temperature conditions and a warehouse with normal temperature conditions. Artifacts and documents in the warehouses are arranged by type, ensuring hygiene, safety and convenience for use. To preserve artifacts, the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue City implements 2 preservation modes (regular preservation and periodic preservation).
Similar to the Hue City History Museum, antiquities and national treasures are still in storage and preservation mode according to materials in the Museum's basic warehouse system. Some rare artifacts are still stored in a secure mode and separate storage space, with a stable 24/7 air-conditioning system. Inspection work at the basic warehouse system is carried out by the unit on a daily basis, with a Warehouse log recording warehouse entry and exit activities, opening and closing times according to the standard regulations of the museum's basic warehouse system.
The History Museum implements normal preservation methods (every 3 months for all artifacts) and therapeutic preservation for damaged and degraded artifacts (from 2017 to present, the unit has invited experts to conduct therapeutic preservation for more than 500 artifacts with different materials).
Meanwhile, at the Central Coastal Nature Museum, each type of specimen of the Museum has different forms of preservation such as skin, fur, and animal bones are preserved in a room with a certain temperature and humidity along with chemicals; aquatic specimens are preserved by soaking in formalin and alcohol; insect specimens are preserved by injecting formalin; specimens related to minerals, geology, and paleontology are less affected by external conditions, so they are preserved more simply.
Security measures and protection work are enhanced.
For the Hue City Center for Culture, Information and Sports, the total number of artifacts belonging to the material groups currently stored here is 1,398 artifacts. These artifacts have been initially inventoried. In addition, at the facility 23-25 Le Loi, there are still about 10,000 Han Nom documents (photocopies).
Implementing the direction of the People's Committee of Hue City in Official Dispatch No. 6487/UBND-CN dated May 27, 2025 on the transfer of documents and artifacts currently kept at the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Thuan Hoa District, currently the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Thuan Hoa District and the Hue City Museum of History are carrying out procedures to hand over artifacts for preservation and promotion of value according to regulations.
At the relics directly managed by the People's Committees at the district level, according to the 2022 inventory data conducted by the Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Department of Culture and Information of districts, towns and cities, the total number of artifacts at the relics directly managed by the People's Committees of districts, towns and Hue city is 4,445 artifacts.
Regarding protection work and measures to ensure security and safety for antiquities and artifacts at museums and relics, museum systems in the province have increased security forces, surveillance camera systems, fire protection systems, temperature, ensuring safety for artifacts in warehouses and on display.
At the relics directly managed by the district People's Committee, the artifacts at the relics are mostly kept and preserved by the management board, the guardians or the representatives of the descendants of the family. These artifacts have been catalogued and have a management diagram, but have not been built into a scientific system of cards to monitor and manage like museum artifacts.
In order to effectively preserve, protect and ensure security and safety for national relics, antiquities and treasures, the People's Committee of Hue City proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism continue to open specialized training courses and organize training courses to improve professional qualifications for staff of museums and relics. At the same time, promote the implementation of international cooperation projects with developed countries and world cultural heritage organizations such as UNESCO, ICCROM... in the field of conservation, preservation, organize training courses, and train domestic and foreign staff to improve professional skills and skills in preserving and displaying artifacts...
