What do teachers wish for?

Study hard, take the test hard

Public opinion has been lamenting the achievement disease of theeducation sector. Outstanding achievements in the international arena and brilliant gold medals are proud highlights. However, the situation of students being favored with higher scores and ignoring mistakes in order to meet targets still occurs.

In the new year, I hope that the assessment of students' abilities will be more substantial, closer, more objective and fair. How can every young person who goes to school feel the joy of striving to study, the happiness of improving their scores through each test, the real joy when touching their certificates of merit at the end of each school year...

Limit extra tutoring according to the trend

Extra teaching and learning are not necessarily bad if the students have the need and the teachers use their pedagogical talents to supplement and improve the knowledge and capacity of the children. However, public opinion has witnessed a different piece of the picture of extra teaching in our country: children study until they are completely numb because of the dense extra-curricular schedule, children study until they lose their childhood because the extra-curricular schedule cuts into their time to eat, sleep, rest, play, and connect.

Don't let extra classes turn into a movement where every element involved in the race feels exhausted: children study hard, parents work hard to earn money to pay tuition, public opinion constantly "criticizes" negative hidden corners, and authorities struggle to find solutions to rectify it.

Building happy schools

School violence is always a "hot" keyword, causing the friendly, harmonious, united, and loving environment behind the school gates to waver with the videos of fighting being posted online. There are scenes of teachers losing their temper, beating students, and behaving inappropriately according to teachers' ethics. There are scenes of parents behaving inhumanely towards their children's teachers and classmates. There is also a sad note about 7th graders surrounding the teacher in the corner of the classroom, throwing slippers at her head...

Preventing the seeds of violence and fostering good nature in young people is the responsibility of schools, families and society. Pay more attention to the quality and morality of learners to train them instead of focusing on nurturing knowledge and capacity. Enhance life skills, especially the skills of regulating emotions, controlling conflicts and solving problems so that every young person is aware that behind the acts of showing off, beating, stripping, filming and posting on the internet are countless scars on both body and soul.

Need early solutions for integrated subjects

The 2018 General Education Program is entering its final stages, and the final drafts of the textbooks have been completed. However, the education sector is still struggling, and public opinion is skeptical about the quality of integrated subjects. Recently, the proposal for the Ministry of Education and Training to compile a set of state textbooks in the context of socialization of textbooks continues to raise endless concerns.

Education is the top national policy. Any reform or innovation in education must be really careful because "one mistake" can lead to a huge deviation. Therefore, we really hope for reasonable, effective, and practical decisions to accurately orient integrated subjects as well as the ambiguous fate of the textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Teachers play an important role in the process of educational reform.

Solving the problem of teacher shortage

Innovation in curriculum and textbooks to meet the progressive trends of the times is an inevitable requirement. However, a complete curriculum and a set of textbooks, no matter how good, cannot replace the role of teachers in conveying the spirit of innovation and realizing the goals of innovation. Unfortunately, the education sector continuously receives sad statistics: By the end of the 2022-2023 school year, the whole country lacked 118,253 preschool and general education teachers according to the prescribed norms. Along with that, in the 2022-2023 school year, 9,295 teachers quit their jobs.

There is a serious shortage of teachers, no recruitment sources, and the trend of quitting shows no signs of stopping. This is a huge obstacle that makes efforts to reform education encounter countless difficulties. Preventing the brain drain and supplementing the team of competent education officials is an urgent requirement. Hopefully, the education sector will have a special recruitment mechanism, increase incentives and reduce pressure to help those who love their profession and children stick with their work.

Hopefully, the new year 2024 will welcome breakthroughs in educational innovation.
