This decision was made after a serious incident when a Romoss spare battery suddenly exploded and caught fire on a Hong Kong Airlines flight from Hangzhou to Hong Kong (China).

The type of backup battery being recalled is sold in Vietnam on e-commerce platforms (Screenshot).
According to the French Bureau of Investigation and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) - the agency responsible for investigating the incident involving the France-based Airbus - the spare battery overheated and exploded, causing a fire in the flight's luggage compartment.
Thanks to the quick response of the flight attendants and crew, the fire was promptly extinguished with water. However, the plane was still forced to turn around and make an emergency landing in Hangzhou. Fortunately, there were no casualties in this incident.
The power bank that caused the fire was later identified as a Romoss PAC20 20,000 mAh. Romoss pledged to work closely with investigators to determine the exact cause of the fire, and announced a recall of all products of this type to prevent similar fires and explosions.
It is estimated that more than 490,000 Romoss 20,000 mAh power banks will be recalled. These products were manufactured between June 2023 and July 2024.
Notably, this type of backup battery is also widely sold in the Vietnamese market through e-commerce platforms and some technology equipment retail stores.
For those who own a Romoss PAC20 20,000 mAh power bank, the urgent recommendation is to stop using the product immediately to prevent the risk of fire or explosion. Users should absolutely not throw this power bank into the regular trash, but should find a safe lithium-ion battery recycling or collection location in their area.
In case you cannot find a recycling place, users should store spare batteries in plastic boxes, place them in safe, visible locations and away from flammable materials to prevent accidents.
Romoss's incident occurred just days after another "big guy" in the Chinese technology industry, Anker, also announced a recall of 1.1 million PowerCore 10000 backup batteries (product code A1263) sold in the US market, for the same reason: "potential problems with lithium-ion batteries that could pose a fire or explosion risk".
Anker's backup battery is also sold in Vietnam through e-commerce platforms. Although Anker Vietnam has not officially announced the product recall, those who own the PowerCore 10000 backup battery (product code A1263) should immediately stop using it to prevent fire and explosion accidents.
Note when using backup batteries to ensure safety
-Avoid leaving the power bank in high temperature, humid places or under direct sunlight (such as in cars, motorbike trunks).
- Do not place batteries under pillows, blankets, mattresses – objects that retain heat and are flammable.
- Stop using if the battery shows signs of swelling, unusual heat or shell deformation.
- Should be replaced after a period of use to prevent the risk of fire or explosion.
- Use genuine charger with correct specifications to extend battery life.
