According to the new regulations, the use of lithium-ion power banks is prohibited on all flights of Vietnam Airlines , Pacific Airlines, and Vasco. Passengers must declare these power banks in their carry-on baggage at the check-in counter and place them in an easily visible location for convenient inspection and timely detection of any abnormalities.
Onboard, Vietnam Airlines has equipped its aircraft with specialized tools such as heat-resistant gloves and fire and smoke-resistant bags to respond to any incidents involving lithium batteries.
All of this equipment is supplied by leading global manufacturers and has been approved by the Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority. In addition, the entire flight crew is trained to handle any unusual situation quickly and effectively.
Vietnam Airlines has now coordinated with the Immigration Department (A08) of the Ministry of Public Security to strengthen screening at major international airports such as Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat, aiming to prevent risks from the ground and minimize risks during flights.
According to international aviation safety standards, this type of battery is absolutely prohibited in checked baggage due to the high risk of fire and explosion if damaged or overheated. Many international airlines have reported incidents of fires and smoke in the passenger cabin related to lithium batteries. On September 1, 2025, a major technology corporation had to recall a 20,000 mAh backup battery model globally due to the risk of overheating that could lead to fire and explosion.
Many major airlines such as China Airlines, Korean Air, Hong Kong Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, etc., have also implemented a ban on passengers using lithium-ion power banks on board aircraft this year.
