The Philippines is Vietnam's largest rice consumer market with a market share of 41.4%. Ivory Coast and China are the next two largest markets with market shares of 11.9% and 10.3%, respectively.

Compared to the same period last year, the value of rice exports in the first 4 months of 2025 to the Philippines market decreased by 21.8%, the Ivory Coast market increased by 2.7 times, and the Chinese market increased by 83.7%.

Among the 15 largest export markets, rice export value increased the most in the Bangladesh market with an increase of 515.6 times and decreased the most in the Indonesian market with a decrease of 97.9%.

Regarding exports, according to the Vietnam Food Association, the price of 5% broken rice from Vietnam is offered at 393 USD/ton, down 3 USD/ton last week.

A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said the Philippines is looking to diversify its rice supply and this could have a certain impact on Vietnam, as the Philippines is the largest rice buyer.

However, the trader also said Vietnam is also looking to increase the proportion of high-quality rice for markets such as Japan and Europe at higher prices.

Meanwhile, Indian rice export prices fell to a two-year low this week, mainly due to a weaker rupee and expectations of another bumper crop year thanks to abundant monsoon rains. Meanwhile, demand for Thai rice was muted.

Specifically, India's 5% broken parboiled rice was quoted at $380-$386 per tonne, down from $382-$389 per tonne last week. India's 5% broken white rice was quoted at $373-$378 per tonne this week.

India is expected to have another bumper crop if monsoon rains continue to be good, which will add to already high inventories, said a Kolkata-based trader.

Last month, India raised the price it buys from farmers for new-season common rice by 3%, the lowest increase in five years, as the country struggles to manage bloated stocks after last year’s record harvest.

Meanwhile, Thailand's 5% broken rice prices remained at $410 per tonne, almost unchanged from last week's $405-$410 per tonne range.

Demand is not good while supplies are plentiful, said a Bangkok-based trader, adding that the Philippines and Indonesia are not buying as much rice this year as they used to.

Regarding the US agricultural market, on June 5, soybean futures prices on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) rose to a one-week high thanks to more optimistic sentiment about trade relations between the US and China - the world's largest soybean buyer.

Wheat futures rose on short covering and rising tensions between major grain suppliers Russia and Ukraine. Corn futures were mostly higher, but slowing U.S. exports capped gains in the most active July contract.

Specifically, the price of soybeans for July 2025 delivery increased by 9 cents to 10.54 USD/bushel, after reaching 10.56-10.75 USD/bushel - the highest level of this contract since May 28.

Corn for July 2025 delivery rose 75 cents to $4.39-$4.50 a bushel and wheat for the same period rose 2.75 cents to $5.46 a bushel (1 bushel of wheat/soybeans=27.2 kg; 1 bushel of corn=25.4 kg).

Soybean prices received support from news that US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping had a rare phone call.

Mr Trump said on social media that the talks had led to a “very positive conclusion” and announced there would be lower-level discussions between the US and China next week.

The world coffee market shows that coffee prices on both London and New York exchanges on June 6 simultaneously decreased.

On the London floor, Robusta coffee prices suddenly turned down sharply compared to the previous trading session, with a decrease of 98 - 153 USD/ton, fluctuating from 4,230 - 4,719 USD/ton.

Specifically, the price of Robusta coffee for July 2025 delivery is 4,440 USD/ton, the price of Robusta coffee for September 2025 delivery is 4,339 USD/ton. The price of Robusta coffee for November 2025 delivery is 4,288 USD/ton and the price of Robusta coffee for January 2026 delivery is 4,245 USD/ton.

Similarly, the price of Arabica coffee on the New York floor decreased by 1.40-1.75 cents/lb compared to the previous session and fluctuated between 344.40-376.40 cents/lb (1 lb = 0.4535 kg). Specifically, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in July 2025 was 358.05 cents/lb, the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in September 2025 was 355.45 cents/lb.

The price of Arabica coffee for delivery in December 2025 is 350.90 cents/lb and the price of Arabica coffee for delivery in March 2026 is 346.25 cents/lb.

In the domestic market, coffee prices in the Central Highlands provinces continued to increase by 1,400-1,800 VND/kg. This is a positive signal, showing the recovery of the market after many consecutive declines before. Currently, the average coffee purchase price in key areas is at 115,700 VND/kg.

Specifically, the price of coffee on June 7 in Dak Lak was 115,700 VND/kg, the price of coffee in Lam Dong was 115,000 VND/kg, the price of coffee in Gia Lai was 115,600 VND/kg and the price of coffee in Dak Nong was 115,700 VND/kg.

According to traders, although the improved Robusta supply outlook has put pressure on both Robusta and Arabica prices, the market is currently technically oversold and is vulnerable to a recovery due to short-selling activities./.
