( Bqp.vn ) - The Dien Bien Phu victory is a brilliant milestone, a strong testament to the strength, creativity and uniqueness of the Vietnamese people's war, the strategic vision of the Politburo and President Ho Chi Minh, the initiative and creativity of the Central Military Commission and the General Command, directly the Party Committee and the Campaign Command, demonstrating the ingenious and brave fighting spirit of our army and people.

On the occasion of preparing for the event to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense, gave an interview to VNA about the contents surrounding this event.

Reporter (PV): Dear Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, how do you evaluate the stature, significance and lessons of the Dien Bien Phu Victory for the current cause of national construction and defense?

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong: Seventy years ago, our army and people carried out the victorious Dien Bien Phu Campaign, contributing decisively to the end of the resistance war against the French colonialists. The victory "was recorded in national history as a Bach Dang, a Chi Lang or a Dong Da of the 20th century and entered world history as a brilliant feat of breaking through the stronghold of the colonial slavery system of imperialism", a banner encouraging colonial peoples around the world to fight for independence and freedom. It was a victory of the strength of "the whole people fighting the enemy" under the wise and talented leadership of the Party, headed by the great President Ho Chi Minh; a symbol of revolutionary heroism; representing the intelligence, mettle, and determination to fight and win for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

Although seven decades have passed, the significance and lessons learned from this great historical event remain valuable and are a great source of encouragement for all our people in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland today. These are lessons about the resistance path; about promoting the strength of great national unity and international solidarity; about building political forces and armed forces; about military science and art; political and ideological work, staff work, logistics, communications; coordination between agencies and units, between the rear and the front, between free zones and temporarily occupied enemy zones...

PV: Could you please tell us how the Ministry of National Defense has prepared for the event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory?

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong: Towards the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, implementing the direction of the Party Central Committee Secretariat and the Central Steering Committee to celebrate major holidays in 2023 - 2025, with the highest political spirit and responsibility, the Ministry of National Defense has proactively coordinated with Dien Bien province and relevant ministries and branches to urgently and comprehensively implement assigned tasks with the highest quality. Notably: Taking the lead in coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security and Dien Bien province to actively organize forces to practice for the parade and commemorative parade. Leading and directing the promotion of propaganda, education, emulation, cultural and sports activities in many diverse and extensive forms throughout the army and in the stationed areas. Leading and directing the extensive organization of political activities, exchanges, talks and scientific seminars. In particular, implementing the direction of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, the Ministry of National Defense presided over and coordinated with the Central Propaganda Department, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Dien Bien province to organize a National Scientific Conference with the theme: "Dien Bien Phu Victory with the cause of building and defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" on April 11, 2024 in Dien Bien Phu city.

In addition, with the spirit of turning towards Dien Bien, the Ministry of National Defense has led and directed the extensive organization of mass mobilization activities, policies, and gratitude. In particular, the Ministry of National Defense has supported the construction of Dien Bien Primary and Secondary School in Thanh Xuong commune, Dien Bien district; supported the construction of 200 "Great Unity Houses", nearly 100 "Gratitude Houses", "Comrades Houses", "Community Activity Houses", with a total value of more than 100 billion VND. Coordinated with the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans Association to carefully prepare for the meeting of Party and State leaders with representatives of veterans and youth volunteers who participated in the resistance war against French colonialism in Hanoi. Coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to deploy the work of ensuring security and safety for the commemorative activities. Believing that, with the responsibility of the entire Party, the entire people and the entire army, we will successfully organize the commemorative activities.

PV: What are the biggest messages that the Ministry of National Defense wants to convey on this extremely meaningful event, comrade?

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong: The 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory is an opportunity for the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people to review the glorious tradition of the Vietnamese people in the revolutionary struggle against invaders, for national independence and national reunification. What brings us to victory in the revolutionary war will certainly bring us to success in peace, construction and development. Therefore, the first and also the greatest message that the Ministry of National Defense wants to convey on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory is the firm belief in the revolutionary path, the path of national construction and development led by the Communist Party of Vietnam and the strength of the Vietnamese people.

Second, always uphold the spirit of patriotism and national unity as President Ho Chi Minh taught: "Unity, unity, great unity; success, success, great success".

Third, always have a spirit, high determination, aspiration for national independence associated with socialism, for a Vietnam with rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness, civilization; have faith in the people, Vietnamese bravery, intelligence and Vietnamese military art to contribute to a strong, prosperous and happy Vietnam.
