Master, Doctor Vu Truong Son said that his childhood dream was to become a journalist, which was sparked when he read and wrote articles for a famous newspaper at that time. But then two events made him change careers to medicine.

In 8th grade, student Vu Truong Son stood outside the operating room of Hospital 108, anxiously waiting for his mother to undergo thyroid surgery. Suddenly, the doctor appeared and announced that the patient had stopped breathing and had stopped breathing right after the surgery ended. The moment he witnessed the doctor quickly opening the airway in his neck, using a large syringe to inject into his mother's heart to help her gradually revive from a purple state..., he realized that "medicine is truly miraculous".

In grade 12, when a close friend passed away from a brain tumor, he decided to switch to studying for the B block exam. The miracle of medicine along with the loss of his close friend made him try to study for an exam that was not his forte and passed the exam to Hai Phong Medical University.

Since his years as a Y3 and Y4 student, he volunteered to support a group of French professors in the HIV prevention and treatment program. At that time, the HIV epidemic spread terror in the community, taking many lives. Initially, he supported AIDS patients at the end of their lives and even carried corpses. The miracle happened when antiretroviral drugs were deployed: HIV patients in the final stages after taking the drugs had many positive changes.

"This drug changed the whole perception of how to approach and treat people with late-stage HIV infection," Dr. Son recalled. Many desperate families who left their children in the hospital waiting to die were surprised when they were informed to take their children home to continue living with their families.

During the day he went to school, and at night he returned to the Infectious Diseases Department at a hospital in Hai Phong, working all night until morning. Many people thought he was too workaholic, saying he had "a problem with his mind" when choosing a dangerous job, poor patients, and a high risk of infection.

In 2007, Dr. Son received a master's scholarship from the French Tropical Hospital (Vientiane, Laos), marking the milestone in his choice of the field of infectious diseases, which is considered "the poorest and most niche in the medical field".

In 2013, when he returned to FV Hospital, Dr. Vu Truong Son was assigned by General Director Jean-Marcel Guillon to be in charge of the infection control process in the context of the hospital pursuing international quality standards JCI.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Dr. Son was one of the most "hardened" members on the front line. He played the role of an infectious disease and epidemiology expert, confidently, calmly and quickly implementing synchronous epidemic prevention measures.

He also made a great contribution to creating a process of protection, classification and screening of patients from online to hospital, sample collection, isolation and testing, ensuring the safety of thousands of medical staff, families and patients.

In 2022, FV's Department of Infectious Diseases was established from Dr. Son's proposal. FV's Department of Infectious Diseases plays an important role in the treatment of infectious diseases, infection control and antibiotic management. FV is a medical facility with an extremely low rate of surgical site infections, only 0.2%, and almost no deaths due to septic shock.

In 2023, Dr. Vu Truong Son was appointed Deputy Medical Director of FV Hospital. Thanks to his leadership ability and sharp thinking, in early 2025, he was assigned the responsibility of Medical Director.

Starting as a French hospital with most of the important positions held by French doctors, after more than 20 years, FV has a generation of Vietnamese doctors inheriting the quintessence of the French team of experts. More and more young doctors are joining FV. "I want to be the one to connect two generations, two cultures and the world's medical quintessence, thereby promoting the values of FV doctors," Dr. Son confided.

According to Dr. Son, FV doctors are not only good at their jobs, but also uphold medical ethics and wholeheartedly care for patients like family, even though their devotion sometimes gets them into trouble. Deciding to operate on a critically ill patient with no family or financial means is not only "medical courage" but also faces legal risks; or accepting a life-threatening case requires many times more effort... As a medical director, he is ready to take responsibility so that doctors "do not hesitate" when carrying out their mission to save lives.

Dr. Son actively expands connections, seeks resources to support doctors, and strengthens coordination between departments to ensure the highest efficiency of care and treatment. Once, he woke up at 2am to find a large forley tube to support an emergency case. He also did not hesitate to persuade family members in emergency situations. Recently, he argued in the middle of the night with a foreign patient's husband so that his colleague could perform a hysterectomy to save a pregnant woman with critical hemorrhage.

Thanks to the doctors' dedication, FV is now considered a hospital specializing in receiving and treating difficult cases. Even cases that have been transferred multiple times and thought to have no hope have been revived upon arriving at FV.

Dr. Son confided that he has many ideas to expand the treatment areas and new services for FV. From his experience in caring for Covid-19 patients, he and his colleagues founded the Home Care Center.

Many nights, Dr. Son's room at the hospital is still lit up, he is passionately writing projects to develop new areas for the hospital. FV will soon launch a diabetes center and a breast pathology center.

As a member of Thomson Medical Group Singapore, FV has additional resources to realize its goal of becoming a leading healthcare provider in Asia. His desire is to help FV become an important medical hub in the region.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Son still maintains the highest level of enthusiasm thanks to being able to do the work he loves. "FV is the only place where my colleagues and I can practice in peace, encompassing many values, including saving people," he confided.
