U22 Vietnam captain tore ligament, missed SEA Games

(Dan Tri) - Midfielder Nguyen Van Truong reported "bad news" to coach Kim Sang Sik after suffering a serious injury in the match where U22 Vietnam lost 0-1 to U22 Korea at Panda Cup 2025.

U22 Vietnam lost to U22 Korea with a score of 0-1, missing the chance to win the 2025 Panda Cup. However, the most regrettable thing was the injury of midfielder Nguyen Van Truong. He was hurt after a dispute with an opponent player, then landed badly at the end of the second half.

According to the hospital examination results, Van Truong suffered a partial anterior cruciate ligament tear and some other injuries. This is a complicated injury, requiring many days of rest to recover. For now, Van Truong will return home with U22 Vietnam and continue to be monitored.

Losing Van Truong is a heavy loss for U22 Vietnam at SEA Games 33.

According to doctors, even without surgery, Van Truong will hardly be able to recover in time to participate in the 33rd SEA Games taking place in early December. This is a big loss for U22 Vietnam because Van Truong is a very important player with a lot of experience.

In case of losing Van Truong, coach Kim Sang Sik will have to call a new player to replace him. Most likely, the Korean strategist will give a chance to Vietnamese-American midfielder Tran Thanh Trung of Ninh Binh Club.

According to plan, after returning home on the afternoon of November 19, U22 Vietnam will regroup and continue training in Vung Tau from November 23. Coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will leave for Thailand to attend the SEA Games on December 2.

In the group stage, U22 Vietnam will play their opening match against U22 Laos on December 4, then meet U22 Malaysia on December 11 in Songkhla (Thailand).
