Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong received Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Russian Federation

(MPI) - On the afternoon of June 20, 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Planning and Investment , Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong received Mr. Dmitry Starostin, Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region, Russian Federation.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc Phuong welcomed Deputy Governor Dmitry Starostin to work at the Ministry of Planning and Investment, on the sidelines of the State visit to Vietnam by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin from June 19-20, 2024; believing that the visit will contribute to deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation and promoting political and diplomatic trust between the two states to develop well in all fields.

The Deputy Minister said that Nizhny Novgorod region and Vietnam have a lot of potential and opportunities to carry out cooperation activities in the coming time. The Deputy Minister gave an overview of some areas that the two sides can explore such as technology and production, industry, tourism , engineer training, etc. He expressed his wish that exchange and cooperation activities should be organized more frequently so that businesses of both sides can access information quickly and accurately.

Mr. Dmitry Starostin said that he always supports and encourages large enterprises of Nizhny Novogorod to increase investment cooperation in Vietnam, and also wishes to create all favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to explore investment opportunities in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The Deputy Governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region highly appreciated the quality of Vietnam's human resources compared to the average of other countries in the region; affirmed that he would encourage businesses of the Region to explore investment and cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese localities in areas suitable for the development of both sides and was ready to participate in joint cooperation activities.

The Russian Federation is a country with a tradition of good relations with Vietnam. Regarding investment, the Russian Federation currently has 186 projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of 984.98 million USD, ranking 28th out of 145 countries and territories investing in Vietnam, focusing on mining, accommodation and catering services, processing and manufacturing industries and implemented in 21 localities (including offshore oil and gas areas).

Major Russian corporations present in Vietnam include Gazprom, Zarubezhneft, Power Machine, GAZ, Novatek. In 2023 alone, Russia has 23 new projects, 01 capital adjustment project, 80 projects contributing capital to buy shares, with a total investment capital of 16.46 million USD, ranking 33rd out of 111 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Vietnam invested in the Russian Federation with 18 projects and 7 capital adjustments, with a total registered capital of 1.63 billion USD, ranking 4th out of 80 countries and territories in which Vietnam has invested./.
