Prime Minister asks Bill Gates to participate in strategic consulting on innovation

New York Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Microsoft founder Bill Gates to participate in strategic consulting on science, technology and innovation for Vietnam.

This proposal was made by the Prime Minister at a meeting with billionaire Bill Gates on the afternoon of September 20, aiming to help Vietnam develop strongly and sustainably in the current period. The Government leader also hopes that Bill Gates will inspire and motivate the young generation of Vietnam in innovation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam is prioritizing the promotion of development based on science, technology, and innovation, including the development of semiconductor chip production and supply chains. Accordingly, he asked Bill Gates to continue to support and advocate for innovative startups, science and technology, climate change response, green transformation promotion, renewable energy development, and improving healthcare and education capacity through funds.

Microsoft founder and Chairman Bill Gates said he has always been interested in, closely followed and highly appreciated Vietnam's development achievements in recent times, especially in economics, healthcare and response to the Covid-19 pandemic. He affirmed that Vietnam is very important in the development policies of Microsoft and its funds.

He said he would continue to promote cooperation and support activities for Vietnam, focusing on the fields of sanitation, clean water, and environment; healthcare, especially tuberculosis prevention; AI and advanced education models. He also said he would deliver a message on the occasion of Vietnam's inauguration of the new facility of the National Innovation Center.

The Gates Foundation, chaired by Bill Gates, focuses on agricultural development, financial services for the poor, clean water and sanitation, global education, and health and nutrition. The foundation also conducts activities in public health and population health, focusing on infectious, endemic, and tropical diseases.

In addition to this fund, Bill Gates has established Energy Breakthrough Ventures (EBV) and Gates Ventures to promote innovation in sustainable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. EBV invests in many startups trying to commercialize new technologies. And Gates Ventures, an organization that advises on global health and development issues as well as a technology investment portfolio.

In Vietnam, Microsoft Corporations has had many activities and specific contributions to the technology sector over the years. In terms of health, one of Bill Gates's outstanding activities is his contribution to the Global Health Fund to support Vietnam's tuberculosis, malaria and HIV programs in recent times. The Gates Foundation also supports activities using technology to combat climate change in the Mekong Delta.
