Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with the Vietnamese community in the United States

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh speaks at a meeting with the Vietnamese community in the United States.

At the meeting, representatives of the people expressed their gratitude for the attention of the Party and State to the overseas Vietnamese community in general and the United States in particular; were happy with the great socio -economic achievements of the country; expressed their wish that the State would have many mechanisms and policies so that Vietnamese intellectuals living and studying abroad would have the conditions to contribute more to the development of the country; wished to increase the teaching of Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese children; strengthen the connection of the elite Vietnamese people in the world to contribute to the Fatherland; Vietnam and the United States would strengthen cooperation in many fields, worthy of the newly established Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Speaking at the meeting, expressing his pleasure to meet the Vietnamese community in San Francisco and neighboring areas; on behalf of the Party and State, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent to all delegates present at today's meeting and all our compatriots in the United States wishes for health, happiness and success. On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other Party and State leaders to the compatriots living in the United States in general and San Francisco in particular.

The Prime Minister stated that Vietnam and the United States have just established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States, so with all 5 years of membership in the United Nations Security Council, Vietnam has a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This is a process, including the contribution of the Vietnamese community living in the United States in general. Recently, President Joe Biden also assessed the Vietnamese community in the United States as one of the successful, dynamic, creative communities, making positive contributions to the relationship between the two countries. We are very proud of promoting the relationship between the two countries, proud of the contributions of our compatriots over the past decades, "putting aside the past, looking towards the future" demonstrating the role and stature of Vietnam in the world. Currently, in the Joint Statement of the two countries, the United States respects Vietnam's political system; the United States supports a strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous Vietnam.

The Prime Minister stated that the overseas Vietnamese community in general is increasing in number and expanding in area with about 6 million people in more than 130 countries and territories, of which 0.6 million are experts and intellectuals; in which, the Vietnamese community in the United States continues to grow strongly, with about 2.2 million people, the largest Vietnamese community in the world. In particular, the West Coast alone has more than 1 million Vietnamese people, of which 700,000 are in San Francisco. This is a successful, creative community, contributing a lot to the United States and the relationship between the two countries. The Prime Minister said that the bilateral trade turnover in 2022 will reach 123 billion USD, of which Vietnam exports to the United States more than 100 billion USD; a large number of Vietnamese students come to study here, many successful Vietnamese people in the United States...

The Prime Minister thanked and hoped that the people would continue to contribute more to the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries; stating that the current world situation has changed a lot, with more global issues emerging such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine, division and competition between major countries, energy and food crises, etc. In that context, Vietnam must rise up on its own. Last year, the country's socio-economic situation had many improvements, including macroeconomic stability, inflation control, growth assurance, and major balances. Vietnam is in the top 40 largest economies in the world; currently, per capita income has reached more than 4,000 USD. This is the effort of the Party, State and people. Vietnam's position and prestige are increasingly enhanced in the international arena.

The Prime Minister was pleased that the overseas Vietnamese community is growing stronger and stronger, an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation; the Party and State always highly appreciate the role and contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community in all fields; Vietnamese people are proud of their nation wherever they go. The Prime Minister hopes that people will continue to unite and unite to succeed.

The Prime Minister said that after upgrading relations with the United States, Vietnam will focus on economics, trade and investment because the United States is the world's number 1 economic power, the two countries still have room for further development, and US investment in Vietnam will certainly increase strongly. Vietnam is strongly improving its investment and business environment, including improving visa procedures and work permits to facilitate foreigners working in Vietnam. The Prime Minister stated that the Party and State advocate strongly developing the cultural sector because "if culture exists, the nation exists, if culture is lost, the nation is lost", "culture lights the way for the nation to go".

Regarding the wishes and proposals of the people, the Prime Minister shared and acknowledged the opinions and will request the relevant ministries, branches and agencies to focus on reviewing, researching and soon having appropriate solutions in a timely and thorough spirit. The Prime Minister wished the Vietnamese community in the United States good health, happiness and success.

At the meeting, people enjoyed the art program "A glimpse of the homeland" performed by domestic artists with special performances of homeland love.
