This is the first State visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh as head of the Government and the first visit to India by a Vietnamese Prime Minister in 10 years.
The official delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the working trip included: Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister, Head of the Government Office Tran Van Son; Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat; Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan; Deputy Minister of National Defense Hoang Xuan Chien; General Director of the Voice of Vietnam Do Tien Sy; Deputy Minister of Public Security Pham The Tung; Permanent Deputy Head of the Central External Relations Commission Ngo Le Van; Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai. Leaders of a number of ministries, branches, agencies and localities also joined the working delegation.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to India takes place in the context of the positive development of the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with a solid foundation of relations and high political trust: relations through the Party, State, National Assembly and people channels have been expanded; national defense and security are important pillars; two-way trade turnover has increased 2.5 times compared to 2016, reaching nearly 15 billion USD in 2023.
Major Indian corporations are promoting cooperation with Vietnam in strategic areas such as renewable energy, processing industry, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, port infrastructure, and logistics. Vinfast Group has started construction of an automobile assembly and manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu state, with a committed capital of 2 billion USD.
The number of Indian tourists to Vietnam has increased 2.5 times in the past 4 years, from 170,000 in 2019 to 400,000 in 2023. The two countries regularly support each other and promote cooperation at regional and international forums and organizations, especially at the United Nations.
Identifying that there is still much potential for cooperation, during this visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indian leaders will discuss and propose directions to develop the Vietnam - India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership more strongly, substantially and effectively in all fields, especially in trade - investment with renewable energy, processing industry, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, logistics, aviation, automobile industry, science and technology, information - telecommunications, digital technology, education - training, culture - tourism, people-to-people exchange, agriculture...
