Prime Minister concerned about unfair criticism of UN Secretary General

The Prime Minister expressed his high agreement with the call of the United Nations and the UN Secretary-General that relevant parties need to end the violence and cease fire immediately.

On the evening of October 11, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left Vientiane (Laos) for home, successfully concluding their working trip to attend the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits.

Earlier, in the afternoon, at the 14th ASEAN - United Nations Summit, the UN Secretary-General highly appreciated the ASEAN - United Nations Comprehensive Partnership which is developing stronger than ever, truly becoming a strategic partnership.

Mr. António Guterres hopes to work with ASEAN to promote cooperation priorities in four areas including connectivity, finance, climate, and peace assurance, emphasizing the importance of ASEAN's role as a connector, builder, and messenger of peace .

At the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two sides should strengthen coordination in responding to global challenges and actively contribute to green and sustainable development. ASEAN and the United Nations need to coordinate closely, ensuring connectivity and mutual support in implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and the "Documents for the Future" recently adopted at the Future Summit.

The Head of the Vietnamese Government also highly appreciated and supported the efforts, initiatives and contributions of the United Nations and the Secretary-General himself to resolve conflicts and hotspots, including the current conflicts in the Middle East.

In addition, the Prime Minister expressed concern about the criticism, lack of impartiality, and actions that hinder and make it difficult for Secretary-General António Guterres to carry out his responsibilities, especially efforts to mediate, provide humanitarian relief, and promote dialogue between relevant parties towards long-term and sustainable solutions.

The Prime Minister expressed his high agreement with the call of the United Nations and Secretary-General António Guterres that the relevant parties need to end the violence and cease fire immediately; ensure the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to the people; release hostages and promote peace negotiations on the basis of the "two-state solution", in accordance with international law, relevant United Nations Resolutions, meeting the legitimate interests of the relevant parties and especially innocent people.

Malaysia is the ASEAN Chair 2025 On the afternoon of October 11, leaders of ASEAN countries attended the closing ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits, transferring the ASEAN Chairmanship from Laos to Malaysia. Contributing effectively to all activities, conveying important messages about ASEAN and the future of ASEAN. At the same time, affirming the image of Vietnam as proactive, positive, responsible, sincere and friendly, with important sharing and suggesting many new ideas for the process of building the ASEAN Community. Previously, at the closing ceremony, in his speech assuming the rotating ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim officially announced the theme of ASEAN Year 2025 as "Inclusivity and Sustainability", expressing the aspiration for common prosperity, leaving no one behind. The year 2025 marks the beginning of a new journey for ASEAN with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, continuing and promoting the achievements of nearly 60 years of cooperation, consolidating intra-bloc linkages, expanding economic cooperation with external partners, and continuing to strive for peace, security, stability and common prosperity. After four days of intensive and active work, the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits were a great success, contributing to enhancing the stature of the "connected and resilient" ASEAN Community, towards a new stage of ASEAN development with a new vision, new thinking, new motivation and new mindset.
