The Steering Committee is responsible for researching and proposing to the Government and the Prime Minister directions and solutions to solve problems in implementing policies, strategies, mechanisms, and national-scale solutions on data, construction activities, and development of national databases and specialized databases.

Along with that, integrating, synchronizing, storing, sharing, decentralizing, exploiting, and coordinating data in the national database and solving important, inter-sectoral data-related tasks; giving opinions on strategies, programs, mechanisms, policies, projects, and plans related to developing national-scale data solutions under the decision-making authority of the Government and the Prime Minister.

At the same time, the Steering Committee assists the Government and the Prime Minister in directing ministries, branches and localities to implement national-scale goals, tasks and solutions on data; coordinate the implementation of strategies, programs, mechanisms, policies, projects, and solutions of an inter-sectoral nature on building and developing national databases and specialized databases; integrate, synchronize, store, share, analyze, exploit and coordinate data at the National General Database.

In addition, assist the Government and the Prime Minister in urging and inspecting the implementation of strategies, programs, mechanisms, policies, projects, and solutions of an inter-sectoral nature on the construction and development of national databases and specialized databases; integrating, synchronizing, storing, sharing, analyzing, exploiting, and coordinating data at the National General Database; summarizing and evaluating the situation and results of implementing key tasks and solutions for tasks related to data. Carry out other tasks as required by the Government, the Prime Minister, and the Head of the Steering Committee.

The Ministry of Public Security is the standing agency of the Steering Committee; submits to the Head of the Steering Committee for approval the Operation Plan, Organization and Operation Regulations of the Steering Committee; ensures necessary conditions for the operation of the Steering Committee.
